TF FW190 GIANT ARF
SrTelemaster, I have missed it, are you using gas or glow? That is really important to factor in. I have found that nothing that comes out of a spray can is fuel proof to glow. Raw gas is brutal as well, but this is only a concern where filling and close to the engine.
Too be safe, I would experiment. I have found the oil based polyurethane to be very durable, it is not quite as flat as I would like but some steel wool may help here. I want to try spraying this, as I have only brushed it on.
It sounds like a little scuffing and you will be in business with the monokote, but it does seem like paint would have a hard time sticking to it. I have never painted monokote, but it sounds like it has worked for others.
I am wanting to use a Saito 450R3 in the Wurger, but cost factors may limit my engine budget to an ASP FS400R5. A 450R3 CDI/methanol engine will make over 6HP, the ASP should be a bit over 5HP output running CDI/methanol.
Running CDI W/glow fuel gives a much more complete burn of the fuel resulting in leaner neddle setting, about 25% more run on a tank of fuel & greatly reduced exhuast residue. A small, but significant power boost over glow ignition is also a result of CDI/methanol use.
There won't be much painting done on the bottom of the aircraft where the vast majority of the exhaust residue will be a factor. My filler port will be under the gun hood where thinned epoxy will protect the wood surfaces.
EDIT: I have used Minwax satin urethane on firewalls in the past W/O any fuel issues. The only problem W/oil based uretane (clear) is that it yellows.
I usually use a combination of latex home depot paint and rusteloum spray cans, I did a FW 190 in white winter scheme using only ruteloum flat white looks great and gas does not affect it
I dont use a primer but do lightly sand the covering? with 400 wet or dry sandpaperusing wet
nothing ever peals up and I have some painted as long ago as 2005 paint still looks great
When i do cover a plane-I usually use alumium monocote then paint that
\Here is a photo of my skyshark P 40 The olive drab is latex-I didnt like the color that came on the plane

I wish I could paint as good as your planes you posted
Be a man and stop acting like you need hand walking through every possible post.
I know what solartex is.....I mentioned it as one of the several coverings I've painted over. Stop being an ass and just listen to ppl or is your ego just so big you have to be exactly 100% right about every nit picking thing you can come up with. Give it rest.
I will lsten to them but you no longer warrant my attention because you are being a JERK. As usual the insecure types like you can't face the fact that they were owned when they posted snide remarks.
Perhaps it is your ego that needs deflated.
So long *****HAT. You are now on my ignore list.

Question: I am well into completing the kit and have come across a small bag of 10 clear plastic pieces 3/8 " X 1 Inch , 1 /16 " thick. For the life of me I can't figure where these go. Any ideas??
TIA

D.W; you are the first person to mention these clear plastic parts, I wonder why no one else with the FW-190 has mentioned them? I went through the bag of parts/hardware found the clear plastic parts, checked the instruction manual and checked every piece of the unassembled aircraft and found no hint as to where these clear plastic would fit. The small bagwith the clear plastic parts alsocontained a small coilspring? So I am like you, scratching my head and wondering, where do these parts fit?

RogerI initially thought that maybe they are shims of some sort - they fit perfectly over the flat side of the strut door retaining clips.

O.K. then I am not the only one to have them. I called Horizon Product support and the reply was ...... '' Hmmm we are not aware of the parts you are describing. ''

I use WBPU clear satin to seal and dull the finish on some of my foamies, but now that I'm stepping up to glow I'm interested to hear if anyone's used PU based top coats with any success.
I guess I could always run a few tests myself - but it's the long-term properties I'd like to shortcut (don't wanna paint something and then find out that it takes a few flights before the PU gets attacked by the fuel).
Thoughts?

How did you get Glennis to respond? Sent them several emails with no response.
Thanks
still wont load the pics[]

They’ve normally responded to my email within a few days. I've been fortunate not to have had any problems. I’ve taken the Glennis wheel off and placed Williams’s brothers wheels. My Glennis wheels are being saved for my Fliteskin TA152
