Default Cheers to a BVM Canadair F-86 Maiden!

Hey All,

Saweeet BVM 82" F-86 Maiden fellas! P160SX, and you can call World Class Builder Kim Foster for the rest of the details. He and his son Scott Foster are both class acts. And Kim built this puppy from the ground up as a true PRO and she's got a little JWM history on her too!

Truthfully this is a re-Maiden since Kim flew her already, but she's so purdy (and fast when she cleans up) that I almost needed to change my drawers after she landed safely! Hey, I'm excited.

BVM planes man, they just build, and fly, and land...perfectly.

All I did was drop in my receiver, turbine, couple extra Goodies, and take her up for a spin. It was about 12-18 mph somewhat cross-wind from the NE/E (Take off and Landing were to straight North), with some gusts up to 20-25 but overall a great day. No issues with tracking. She handled the wind by just ignoring it ...Rotation and lift off were scale, I am just getting a feel for the landings. What you see in video is the maiden, and the photos are from the second flight. Very easy to land on both. Just keep power on until you hit the X. Just like the Hun.

Big thanks to my bud Glenn Lee for the great steady hand on the video and camera!

I'll tell you Kim, that Gyro on the rudder is a smooth idea! She glides like a docile puppy and auto-corrects on final to dampen that Dutch-Rolling effect they get.

Greg W., we gotta find a way to get smoke on board and bust a couple of laps Canadair Golden Hawk formation-style! [8D]

Very Happy, Tailwinds...

Shaz

Nice Shaz. I love my BVM F-86F that Greg A built. Like you said, it's hard to beat BVM. Everything they make works and works well. These are great jets. And, once you get the hang of slow flight those landing will seem easy. (ALWAYS POWER ON BABE). At Top Gun Scott Harris and I were practicing slow speed (dirty) flybys. These guys have full authority on slow flybys. Just put her up about 200 feet and practice them. You will be amazed how well they fly slow.

Another BVM shill heard from! Congrats on your Top Gun performance! That's a really nice jet, you have. The Metal Morp treatment is incredible! I saw it at Desert Jet Storm several years back when Ron Long owned it. Enjoy!

Good to see this jet back in the air with a good pilot. That Sabre is a one of a kind build by Greg Anixter. Good luck with it !!

You are very correct. I couldn't have done it without Jim McEwen's help. He's a great spotter. Not sure what I'm gonna do next year when we might be flying against each other lol.

David, you are right buddy, I am a jet elitist snob hehehe (gotta try and keep up with your outstanding fleet man!).

Thanks for the well wishes everybody, hope to get many more flights on her. Andy, I will be sure to try the slow flight. It's almost something you have to FORCE yourself to do to get over the "fear that the plane will just fall out of the sky if she is travelling under 100 mph".

Shaz,
Congrats! Looked like a great flying model. Feel free to keep posting about it, the video is good motivation for me to keep plodding away on mine (midst of flite metal at the moment).. Did you pick the 160 due to your elevation?

Sean, yes, 160SX gets about 28-30lbs of thrust up here. Plod away bro, she is another typical BVM winner!

Another Canadian favourite of mine , looks awesome Shaz just needs a snowbird beside it and a sky lancer , and a golden centennaire and you would have some great Canadian history. You need to come up northwest and enjoy the thick air we have. We can provide a snowbird escort of at least 3 and a skylancer (f86 one of the first show teams Canada had ) although dean may have trouble flying snowbird 4 and the skylancer but we would have fun trying.

Great looking bird.
Kevin
