Hey Capt,
I just checked out your website for the first time and unless I went to the wrong site, I don't see any airplanes forsale. Just a few spinners and some wheels. Did I go to the right site??
What kind of Cessna's do you have on order?
From all the research that I have done, ASM is History   []

Hi Silver,

You are right... The web site is some what to be desired.. We don't usually put the planes out on the site. Most of the time the planes will be gone almost before I get them. Because we have the mobile hobby shop I sell most of the planes at Giant Scale fly-ins. The Pilot RC guys have been after me to put some of their planes on the site, but here again they don't last very long. I will have some Cessna 195s with 90" span hopefully in a month or so. I will keep you posted. [img]

Hey guys, I was having poblems with my side dump muffler hitting the cowl on the landing light recess. I decided to try and cut it off and welding it back up, and if that failed I would have to order another one made to fit for $$$$
But it worked and total cost was 10 bucks!!!
Here are a couple pics. Other then that I have not had much time to finnish Her yet.

Hey Guys, I am still working on my Cessna as I get spare time.
I just got the lights finnished and turned them on for the first time, and I have to say I am very very impressed with ED-Electro Dynamics lights and programer. They said they are the brightest on the market and now I believe them, the picture don't even show how bright they are, they are almost Blinding!!!

I also took care of the 3#s of Lead issue that I have heard people have been adding to the nose to make this Bird Balance.
I made a couple of Battery holders that extend to the very front of the cowl, and I took my 6oz hardend steel prop drill jig and longer prop bolts and BAM!!! LOL
It looks like after I add my third Battery for the lights with the other two, I will need very little Lead to get her Balanced

All Batterys are in place along with the Telemetry opt RPM sensor and the engine temp.
The added 3rd battery for the lighting system really helped getting her close to the correct CG

Great minds and all that, did the same wing mounting deal with 1/4 x 20 Allen socket bolts, blind nuts, and a wooden block between the inner and outer formers. Really nice to be able to spin those bolts in from the top hatch, and then cinch them down. I finally mounted the wheel pants to this beast, it adds a lot more character. I've had mine out a couple of times already, have gotten some landing pointers from full scale 182 pilots. Have finally gotten the flap/elevator mix set up and will be trying some partial to full flap landings soon.

Your plane looks great Wile E

I am trying to get the cockpit in right now, and again its like nothing fits!!
But still love this Cessna LOL
This is the most time I have ever put into an ARF airplane. I am not very handy when it comes to the fine finnish details.

When the Flaps are Deployed does this plane want to balloon much?

I added a slight bit of down elev with the flaps for now.

Hey Wile E
You had a 3-blade prop on that plane last time I saw it.

Hey Wile E,

That is cool... I think it is a better way to keep the Ding Dang Wing on it. I am still thinking about what to do to my last 182. My main thought right now is to re-paint it, maybe blue or yellow, just lose the Red. I want to do something different. Maybe some 2000 Cessna graphics on an all-white plane.

Later,

Hi Silver,

Your 182 is looking very sweet...!! The batts out front on the batt mounts is a great idea. The whole interior fit thing can be subjective at best. Most of the time one side of the inter structure is a little higher and the bottom center section is off to one side. It is generally easier to fit your own hand made interior then it is to fit the interior kit from the manufacture. Good luck

Silvers:

The cockpit kit needed LOTS of fitting and trimming, especially those side pieces, getting a good fit around the windows was a pain. I made the last few inches of the floor section removable for easier tail mounting, then just clip it back in with velcro. Oh by the way, the front section of the flooring is plywood, the pilot mount also doubles as a camera platform.
Flaps needed some down elevator mixed in, you may have to experiment depending on how much travel you have set up. I have been making some really great landings without them, however.
Yes, I did have a nice Mejzlik 20 x 10 3 blade carbon fiber prop, I think it actually had better climb, but after an unfortunate "arrival" and breaking both prop and nose gear, I have been practicing landings with the Xoar 22 x 10 wood.
I guess one advantage of using an older Zenoah G-62 magneto engine was that very little nose weight was needed for final trim balancing. The muffler and air cleaner (for intake silencing) do stick out of the cowl, but are not noticable in the air.

Captmicom:

More modern graphics would be a great choice. A lot of current models, no matter what size, from tiny foamy to these 10 foot beasts have the same paint job.

Silvers:

Looking at your battery mounts again, you should add some cross bracing between them. That much weight on a cantilevered arm will cause a lot of stress at the mounted end from engine vibration. A hard landing would cause adittional stress. Crossed plywood arches over the top, and a plate in the front would help a lot. (Mechanical Engineering geek )

Hi Cessna guys

A fellow club member of mine just had his Maiden with his Cessna the other day. Trimming is not yet complete, also the conditions were maybe a wee bit windy (and turbulent) for that final smoothing, nevertheless he felt that is was somewhat tailheavy, based on the longitudinally liveliness when applying elevator.

I promised him to ask you guys about what your experiences were, regarding C/G, do you fly it according to factory recommadations or where did you end up? ( would prefer distance from leading edge, at wing root, pls) Also elevator throw, did you set that at factory setting?

I am aware of the fact that control surface deflections, use of dual rate, expo etc are subject to mood-of-the-day/temper/skill and so on (and to a certain extend, that goes for position of C/G too), but would very much appreciate any inputs .

Whishes for a good long and safe summer of flying. Ole

Hi Olesten,

I can tell you that these 182's always run tail heavy even when using an old stile mag engine. I can’t tell you inch wise where to put the CG but the fastest and easiest way to GC any basic straight wing plane is to start the CG at the wing spar.
That will generally put the CG in the 25% to 30 % range and make sure the plane is not tail heavy. You can then work the CG point forward or back from there until you get the plane in your comfort zone.
I will mostly leave the CG at the spar point on my planes. Quick and easy!! Good to you guys and have fun....

Hey Wile
Looks Great!! I like the hinges you used for the cargo door. I saw them at tower hobbies but ended up getting some just like them only made out of plastic. I have not installed them as of yet.
Also looks like you did a nice job on your cockpit. Mine is about done, I THINK LOL
I too am thinking of making some kind of access from the cargo door to the upper tail bolts. I am just getting in a hurry now because of all the time it has taken for all the mods to this plane that should be done.
And yes I was thinking of another brace on the battery holders incase of a hard landing, and that is a good ideal but again I am either just getting in a hurry now or just lazy.

But thanks and looking at yours has put me in the mood to slow back down and do it the way I want it done.

Hey Guys, I had a wing bag made for my Cessna wings and they did a great job on them. Really good materiel and they even made a pocket for the wing struts!! They have many colors to chose from including camo.
