Mine was purchased new as a short block. It is a replacement engine for a back pack blower. It has quite a bit of time on it now and I am very happy with it. Even on floats at about 30 pounds it has plenty of power.

Anyone still flying this plane? I am about to start a build and was wondering if there was anything I should watch out for? I'll be running a DLE55, I hope that enough to make her fun. She is actually for my 11 year old daughter!

Bob, WWW.toni-clark.com has a intake manifold to side mount your carb, no hole cutting.
carb stays inside cowl. Also has some good looking mufflers for cubs. Go to cataloque. Don.

Sirs, I am finishing my model tech 1/3 scale J3 Cub, planning to inbstall the OS MAX 4 cylinder pegasus engine, do you think it will fly underpower??? What shoul I do, going on or change the engine

I've got a Proctor 1/3 scale with a BUSA Super Cub cowl that completely hides the GT-80. Its painted up in Luftwaffe colors (would you expect anything less from me). I'm still waiting on the spinner hub from True Turn. I'm having trouble finding a 1/3 scale German WWII pilot, any help would be appreciated. My prop is the Xoar 24X10 Lance style and it looks great, cant wait to get it in the air.

Bought this Cub second hand from a club mate - what a kit - barnyard industrial engineering - it had lots of tinkering in the last few years of its life, but does not seem like it flew much, if any at all. I took out over 2 lbs of dead weight, installed a 75cc King engine, and made a set of carbon landing gear, both main and tail. Was way tail-heavy even with the big engine upfront, so I ended up adjusting the CG by installing a pull pull rudder and moving the servo in the cabin area. I also installed a new set of carbon pushrods all around.
After my first phase of modifications it weights in at 28 lbs with reserve fuel. It now hovers at little over half throttle on a 25-8.
Look at the picture, this carbon landing gear weighs 320 grams with axles, saves over 400 grams over the stock. I tested it to 4 G's at 13 kg, and my kids tested it by riding it like a push cart around the house.

If i were doing the 1/3 cub thing again, for scale I would go with that 57 cc saito gas 4 stroke, unless you were on floats then you should so something else

yea sure it will sound fantastic with a Saito, but these days I like to mix my flying - so my current cub spends as much time in harrier, hover and flat spins as much in straight and level - so 57 four stroke is about half the power I would really like - as it is 75cc two stroke on a 28lbs model is on the low side for my comfort.

I have a DLE 55 in my Sig Super Cub, at 34 lbs has plenty of power. Had to add 2 lbs of weight to the firewall to balance. Here is a video of the maiden flight.

Here is a video of mine, 4th flight after total crash and rebuild - in this video carb not set right so engine was running rough in knife-edge - my regular routine includes knife-edge stall turns, flat spins, hovers, harriers and a vertical climb-out. I also like to fly it NOE 2ft off the ground and trees around the field in figure 8s - Very easy plane to fly.

wouldnt it be easier to taxi it to the runway, instead of holding the rudder?

Yes, you are right - at most places, but not at that field. Very peculiar vine like grass at this location, would grab onto to the tail wheel and possibly damage the mounting - had to lift the tail up to taxi

the 40 to 50 twins would be good choices,you dont need a gang of ponys because they like to float around.on a 10 mph head wind mine wanted to just sit out there and hover.

I maidened my 1:3 scale BUSA Super Cub the other day. It´s perfectly powered by a Zenoah GT-80, swinging either a Fiala 26x10 or 27x8. Takeoff weight, including 33,8 oz fuel, is 46,2 lb.
At full power it will climb at about a 30 degree angle, and "Tundra Cub takeoffs" are almost vertical after a 60ft takeoff run. :-)

hello Alex,
i am about to finish the same plane and engine OS FF 320, as yours, the plane I found needed lots of clean up but was sound.
i wonder how your engine ran, best prop you found to use and available power. Any comments you can add are appreciated.
