Looks like I'll have to revamp the installation and put the tank on a "see-saw" internally......glad you brought that up.
Been preparing for a club swap meet that is happening this Saturday....didn't accomplish anything on the plane....Have been doing a lot of flying of my other planes the past two weeks.
If we get some evening rain tomorrow I'll do something on the Lancair.........

How do you like Hostetler plans?
I've got a couple projects in mind, either his Cessna 170 or Cessna 182. I want to scratch build and cut my own parts but I've seen his plans, they don't seem to show all the proper fuselage parts and wing ribs, etc.

I have built 2 planes from his plans but had both of them cut by "CUSTOMCUTTERS"....all parts were there when I received the cut kits. All parts were a good fit. I'll double check that name....and get back to you.......going to a swap meet now....It is my experiencethat it is cheaper to have the kit cut by someone else......I always seem to use more wood and it gets frustrating when I find I missed a piece and have to go back and cut it later. Just my opinion.........Sebo
It could have been Precision Kit cutters.....the logo is a Coast Guard C130...................hope this helps.....

Worked on the elevator set up today....spent 2 hours and have nothing to show for it.
Went to a swap meet yesterday and sold a couple of kits and old engines...Made $560.00.....kinda does the soul some good........will give 10% to the church....

For the price of every kit I have ever gotten from Precision Cut kits, I could of bought enough wood for Three of the kits. And not to mention, 90% of the parts and wood included from PCK is really horrible quality. Parts aren't left in their sheet "beds" so if you have allot of small parts of thin wood, they end up broken b/c they just throw it in a bag. Sheet wood quality is typically on my rating scale as a "D" at best. It is always very heavy and hard, which is fine for a wing, but the back half of a fuselage or a tail section can prove to be a pain in the butt later on when you need go to balance the airplane (especially if its a short nosed warbird).
The only benefit, is you don't have to cut the parts yourself.. that is, IF they include all of the parts! I have three kits from PCK for three different designers right now, and they are ALL missing important parts (wing ribs, fuselage doublers, wing saddle's, etc etc etc). Personally, if you have the tools, i recommend cutting your own kits.
As far as the air tank, it doesn't matter what orientation it is in, its a compressed gas. Its going to come out at the same rate (for a given PSI) no matter where the exit is.

As for kit cutters all I can say is stay far, far, far away from Cornell Michaels! Took over a year and a half to get my Lancair IV kit cut. Not cut very well either.

It is actually relevant to discuss a cutter when in a build. Others who may be interested in buying the plans and then getting the kit done so they may follow in the footsteps of those who take the time to document a build.
All providers of kits whether Balsa USA or a guy just starting out will have imperfect parts as any of us who have been building for years can attest to.
You have done a great piece of work in documenting your build and by virtue of posting your results it has become public domain and subject to those rules.
Keep up the good work.

Trying something new (FOR ME). Using JBWeld and a brass sleve to hold the elevator rods together...using the 6 min kind. It is supposed to have over 2200 psi holding power.
It takes 4 to 6 hours to cure so that will be all that will get done this evening.

I let itcure over night.........this morning I put a very small amount of pressure on the weld and it broke lose..
soooo, I mixed a batch of 30 minute epoxy and put it together again and will let it rest overnight again......
What a disappointment.....planned on doing a lotwith it today.....maybe I can work on something else......

I do but I have committed to 30 min epoxy....I'm not willing to back up and start again....I hope it doesn't cost me......I will thoroughly strength test it before I install...If it breaks, back to square one and JB Weld....one side held but the other didn't. I cleaned grease off and scratched it before applying the weld...just wait and see for now.

OK....The JB broke again and so did the 30 min epoxy......went to wrapping with copper wire and soldering.........should have done that in the first place........really strong now.
Had the club family day at the field today.........I won a chipmunk and in an auction I won a radio and an engine for a total expenditure of $4.00...great day and great company at the family day picnic.

Epoxied the control horn into place on the elevator....cleaned the work bench off also....most of it anyhow.

The weather has been rather iffy for a while. Seems like rain all the time, when its not raining the fields are too wet to fly off of. When they finally get dry...guess what? It rains again.
I have already gone through over 6000 slides and put them into some order and in archive holders. I have hundreds or more of photos to work through still..
You have been doing a good job with the Lancair. I will be getting back to the build in a few months I think. maybe I can get a day to actually fly outside instead of my Real flight.. HAHA

I am trying to learn how to use this new application........I'm still working on the plane..........I have glassed the horizontal and vertical stabs including the rudder and the elevators.

Looks good, Is that Robart your working with. Do you have photos of the mains. Mine has retract in the nose but the previous owner changed the mains to fixed Aluminum gear.
