Info from Data Terminal after a shutdown

RE: Info from Data Terminal after a shutdown
the FADEC monitors your requested RPM and it does it's part to get the turbine to match that, the acceleration/deceleration parameters determine how quickly it's allowed to do that, the rapid back and forth action is like turning the pump on/off/on/off rapidly and can cause a spike in current draw and gives the limit reached, it's like feeding AC voltage to the DC brushed pump motor.

that's a turbine engine, not a harley at a red light, you don't rev the engine up and down like that, that video was useless IMO.

He is correct though. All turbine engines arent happy with rapidly verying loads. Primary reason they never wound-up in road vehicles.

Dominic, let's have you do the following:
1) increase pump limit to 600
2) relearn RC
Looks like you are using a transmitter with digital throttle trim, please refer to our newest version of manual on learn RC for proper failsafe, not that this is relevant to the problem at hand, but just be sure...
I think the turbine ran pretty well with the exception of "pump limit reach" message flashing, let us know!
Regards,
Barry

@Joseph - Thanks. Will do that as well.
@Barry - Thanks. Will do that when I get back later today. FYI - am using a Spektrum DX18.

Set pump pw to 600 and did relearn RC, re-ran the test with relatively slowly throttle movements and no problems. Amps drawn by the pump peaked at 3.2 and PW at 416 at full throttle. Thanks Barry. Hoping that's resolved it. I'll fly next weekend and report back. Thanks for the rapid responses.

Good to hear, however, I didn't think your throttle input was a factor to "pump limit reached", glad it's running fine now.

No it's not mate. Got my DX18 as soon as they first came out. Great radio.
So another flight yesterday and another flameout but since I'm a deadstick specialist it wasn't too much of a problem. I had taken the UAT out of the system so maybe a bubble, and also noticed on landing that the +ve wire onto the pump was not hanging on by much. So will re-plumb UAT, resolder pump and try again next week.

RE: Info from Data Terminal after a shutdown
First chance to fly my K140 powered Futura in a while and three good flights. Each just under 6 minutes. My main concern now is with fuel consumption. I am using two Dubro 1500cc tanks connected in series, and I'm burning through 90% of that in just under 6 minutes. Is that right? K140F fuel consumption is stated as 14oz per minute. With about 106oz onboard and mixed throttle usage shouldn't I get quite a bit more flight time than that?

Bump. Any input appreciated.
One thought...the turbine exit nozzle is well within the bell mouth. Should there be a gap between the end of the nozzle and the leading edge of the bell mouth? Illustration of the gap required for the K140F would be great if someone has it. Thanks.

Bump. Would be good to know what the gap from the nozzle to the start of the bell mouth or pipe should be from other K140 owners.

Sorry I am unable to upload the drawing.
For your guidance, you can see it on page 41 of the Kingtech manual. You can download it from here:

Anyway gap is between 20 and 30mm
Hope this helps.

Thanks. So is that distance to the bell mouth or start of the pipe itself? Hard to tell from that diagram. Would assume the pipe.

Moved the engine back and flew 3 flights today. Much improved fuel consumption 8-9 minutes from about 4 liters. Seems all my problems are behind me. Now just need some decent blue sky weather. 20mph and overcast today but nothing was going to stop me trying the new setup.

Distance to the pipe - so the end of the turbine nozzle is about half way into the bell mouth.

All the problems I had a distant memory. So enjoying this fantastic engine which I got at a great price. Now have 100+ flights on my Futura but still have a lot to learn to get to the level of aerobatics I want to be able to perform. Thanks again to those that contributed to this thread. Much appreciated. - Dom

I am hoping that this thread is still open.
I have a gas start K80 with 10hrs flying time on it. Occasionally at the end of the flight the engine will shut down of its own accord. This has only been happening for the past few flights. I haven't taken any readings yet but I will do next time it happens. From reading the previous posts I am suspecting a partial blockage in the fuel system. This doesn't occur when tanks are full, only when engine is idled back for landing at the end of the flight, mostly after touch down. About the same time this started I also noticed that the idle would sometimes be quite high during landing and taxiing after a flight. Could the high idle and flameouts be related.
Thanks
Col

It maybe related but almost impossible to help you without knowing the type and condition of components involved, ie. model of pump, serial number of engine, battery pack..., please contact your local dealer or Ken at KingTech Australia. Thanks,
Barry

I will check plumbing and filters and then proceed from there if the condition continues.
