RE: FSA Clubhouse
Our superintendant, Gary (said in jest but with a genuine nod to the work he does for us), was nice enough to give me a tour of the proposed heli area. It is parallel to the runway headed south towards the open area. It is very rough to non-existant so far- they cut down a bunch of trees and there is a rough path for vehicles to get to it.
My understanding is that an offer was made to the homeless Maryland Helicoptor Association about coming out and joining the club/developing the proposed heli area recently but I don't think that came to fruition- maybe it will in the future.
There could be some potential for "interaction" between heli and plane mostly when landing or taking off from the main runway- we will see how it works out. Just for kicks I pulled out mapquest and placed my own estimation for likely air space taken up by heli's and planes. We'll need to be vigilant at times- but it would be nice to be able to fly helis and planes simultaneously if it can be made to work.

RE: FSA Clubhouse
Just in case anyone is interested, this is the cheapest I have found Viton fuel line online: http://www.ebay.com/itm/320510696547...84.m1423.l2649
$2.93 per foot. If you do not know about Viton it is a fuel line that is supposed to last many years so you don't have to change it too often. I am mostly using this inside my tanks but have moved some of my planes (like my P-51) to use VIton for all lines in order to avoid the pain of changing the fuel line.
I bought from this guy and received my order promptly.

Message to the guy with the Boeing AH-64 Apache Heli at yesterday's event; recharging the 5Ahr batteries... took 4064mAhr on the charge... divide that by 2 for 2032mAhr. Average Cell voltage 3.92
I don't have a way to contact him, so maybe one of the MHA guys can let him know this.

If anyone has a spare 4-40 diffusing Gerbulator, I could sure use it. Could you bring it to the field tomorrow? Thanks.

Thank you to everyone that participated in finishing the brick paver project to the flight box. It will make it nice for anyone with a disability. I am sorry about the flight time wasted, it really was not our intent to close the field.

I am not sure if everyone has been following that tragic death of Roman Pirozek Jr in NYC last week. There has been a lot of discussions around this most positive around condolences to the family. This is a tragedy that a young man of 19 years old is gone. What this does though is highlight the dangers of our hobby. It highlights the danger of either mechanical failure or pilot error. It especially highlights the dangers of flying RC aircraft too close to your body. I have been reading lots of threads, news accounts etc. around this event. I have even watched some of Roman's videos. From all accounts, he was an accomplished pilot and extremely talented. But even the best pilots must not get over confident. It has been reported in a couple of places that he that it was performing a hurricane with his copter. This maneuver is inherently dangerous as you are flying a knife edge circle with your heli going as fast as you can.
I heard a quote that Dave Michaels said, that starting our airplanes are like someone turning a lawn mower on it side and spinning it. Everyone, let's fly safe, let's think about how we fly heli's with others in the boxes. Remember, you are not the only one at risk.

New Heli-Pad Complete
Here is a picture of the new Heli-Pad Paver project... now the pad is 5'x5'... We decided the 3x3 pad was not big enough. I hope that the new size is big enough. We also have a picnic table and a couple of chairs at the Heli flying site. Several people that have flown from there like the flying area. Give it a try.
I could use a 60 sized nitro engine for a wounded warrior plank project... anyone have a nice glow engine you don't need?
I would like to replace the wood hover pad with a concrete paver pad, but it is not going to happen this year and I am not paving the run-way contrary to popular lore.
