RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Hi Speed Freaks!! i'm from the UK, and I just can't get enough speed!! I have 2 (yes 2!!!) Magnums, one with a West, and the other which had a Jett and now has a RMX 48 (plane is too used to put a REALLY fast motor in it. If it di it would fall apart!!) i've also flown DD's with Jetts in them and I also fly our club's ex-pylon racer (IR40, no throttle, 250mph easy) at our Club's open days. Would it be too much to ask to become one of the Legendary speed freak Revver Brothers?

If I bought a Jett my wife would make me decide between speed and pattern to spend the money on...I don't want to make that decision....I tired selling the Webra but no one wanted it...I guess I could find a 80 or 90 size DF engine for it at a reasonable price.

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Then what would I do with the YS??????? Maybe put it in a Whiplash?????? Actually that's a pretty good idea but I am palnning on redoing the Dago Red this winter. Strip it, paint the fuselage and recover the wing and put my YS 60 RE in it. I am working on a CNC foam cutter and once I get it done it'll be composite delta time so the YS 45 will get a home.

Tjingeling, any chance I can qualify as a Revver Brother with my Miss Caramba pylon ship having a tuned and mini-piped MVVS.49 in the nose....? She sure is a bit fast for my 59+ reflexes but so far Alf and I have piloted her without mishap for two seasons.
Flyboy Dave, I´m both surprised and disappointed at the rather lukewarm response to your green twin delta in post #625. I was absolutely overwhelmed when I saw it. Whattizzit...??? more details pliiiiis...!!.....Cheers/Harald

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
The Twin Outlaw, I call it Banditos, is a Jerry Smith Outlaw blown up and then I added two engine pods. I'm not at home to give you specifics on wing span etc but it's not much bigger per cent wise but came out quite a bit bigger in real life. The two MVVS motors create quite a noise on the pipe and resonate off each other. On the bench it took three of us to hold it down at full throttle!!! I couldn't ask a sane person to hand launch it so I made a dolly and I have had some problems with the dolly releasing from the plane in flight. It's a fast palne but in true Outlaw form it's more of a acrobat than a speed plane though it's easily a true 160-170mph. I'm still working on it to get more speed. It has two servos on each elevon, two throttle servos and a high speed/ torque rudder servo. It's not fun to fly(yet) but it sure is different.... hope this answers the questions....

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Flyboy Dave,
Thanks for the number, I will wear it with pride!!
Razor,
Thanks for the compliment! Haven't flown the pattern ship yet, looking forward to that in the spring. The Patriot, well it's just awesome, though my takeoffs are still a little hairy off our grass field!! My friend and I have had both our Patriots up at the same time, but right now he's way faster, as his has retracts and a YS 45 on it! Hence the need to build the Lyka Jet, just to up the speed ante a bit! Although he's got two ducted fan jets in the works, so the war continues....
I also have a Balsacraft Rapier kit yet to build, and I saw someone on here with a OS 91FX on their's, so maybe I'll have to go that route!
So many planes, so many craters in the field....
Steve

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Hey Razor,
I've got a Patriot question for you...
Have you, or have you ever heard of someone, setting up the Patriot with flaperons to slow the landing speed down a bit?
I was considering this for my current Patriot as well as the Lyka Jet. In the spring our field isn't too bad for landing approaches, but by late summer, the corn at the one end is 10' high and we lose quite a bit of landing space just having the clear it.
Thanks,
Steve

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
My last Patriot had inboard split-flaps, so they were not coupled with the ail. rather the inner most about 10" on each side were flaps, the outer portion was ailerons- with Spring Air Retracts and a Jett-50 turning a 9x9 it was a site to see---
I dunno about flaperons but mine would slow WAY down, maybe 10mph to land with full flaps---
BTW- If you get the Tower muffler ($14) you will probably pick up 500-1M rpm's on the 46FX, the Ultrathrust and Jettstream more...
Take it easy and keep in touch!
James
P.S. Have you ever flown a Whiplash?

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Steve,
by all accounts, the Patriot XL flaps work fairly well. Id imagine they might work pretty well on the small bird too. I guess its a bit of a weight trade-off. You might end up with two aileron servos and flap servo.... as opposed to just the single aileron servo.
If you keep the plane light, it will slow down nicely for landing as Razor noted. Does come in fairly flat, but the minute you flair a bit, and crack the throttle a click or two, it will hold a nice 4 deg flair, and slow down very nicely.
Sounds like what you want to do is create a bit steeper glide slope to get over the corn. The inboard flaps might help more there.
You definately do not want to flap-mix the ailerons. Tried that....baddddddd idea.
Take a look at the big Patriot .... nice flap layout.
