Bob,
Got up with Luke.
I use oil based clay, Roma Plastilina Modeling Clay. The clay must be
properly worked in small bits to warm it up, you cannot use it in cold
temperatures. To smooth the clay apply some Vaseline with you fingers, not
to much though.
Luke out!

Geez fellas, I have to start a couple other things and kaboom, the thread's dead . What's up guys? At least you could let a fellow live vicariously through you while he completes another plane or two. The thread's already a page 3 item. I have to try to liven it up somehow. You guys have to get going to keep giving me good ideas

Good news for those missed out on TF GS Corsair kit. Tower Hobbies is listing it for back order now. Available late Feb 2006. I guess this is the 4th production run?
I like this kit so much that I ordered another one. Tower raised the price to $300.

I am not sure what your question is. but if you are asking will a F/G/S new TF-20B cowl with open doors fit over G62, The ansure is no,per there own measurements, unless you raise the engine above center, then a dummy engine is not possible. I hope this helps, if you have further question please ask and I will try to ansure..

Bob, no questions. I thought you were asking me about what setup I'm using. I have a pretty good idea of what's in volved to put the cowl on. Seems like it fits pretty nice to me. I've got no problem opening up the bottom of the cowl over the engine head if I have to. Small price to pay for me on this one.

Your right I had for got I ask that question, but will you cut out all the way back , or leave some cowl, if so how will you get cooling??I have layed out the cowel flaps on my F/G/S old style opened them 20 degand that gives about twice the opening size

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Bob,
I've seen that done too with good effect on the stock cowls. I've also seen the front of the fuse tapered down with balsa rings to provide yet more cooling air to rush out the the area. But, that's definitely a "build-in" type thing into the front fuse, not a retrofit. That's the best way I've seen to keep it scale as it keeps all the hot air exiting the right spots.
I'm just going to open up the spaces between the dummy radial cylinders on the ply mount in front engine head only for the cooling inlet.

Now I am on the same page with you, I did that on my frist build and do to over heating I ended up opening the spaces be tween cyl's on the dummy engine, That solved the heat problem, The only problem that I see is if you are hard A scale it is not to scale like when at full bore, but my build is what I call fun scale any way

nchrome Nice to have you aboard.
If you keep it light, do the lighting hloe thing in the tail group, should be ok, I would recomend reading the orignal right ups by RC Report and RCM it will give you some insite on what to expect with your 41.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
I just received an email from one of the Product Support Technicians at Top Flite. I had asked him if there were any differences from the new kit to the old. He said that this is a totally new kit and that he did not have the info yet on what the differences are. The new P/N is TOPA0410. That at least is a different part number from the one that I received a couple of years ago. When I brought this up on the Tower page it did show the kit calling for 5" dia main wheels rather than 4 1/2" as before. Didn't compare any of the others but this one jumped out at me.
Anyway, this is good news. I also asked him if TF was considering an ARF like they did with the P-51. He said not at this time, however, if they get enough interest and people asking for one, they would consider it. The P-51 ARF has apparently been a big success.
I guess I had better get busy and start building this one. Lots of good info here. Have printed all of this and am making notes.
Thanks to all of you for your very good and informative input.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Tower is taking back-order on this kit again (4th production run). My order is in. When I receive it (Mid Feb), I will tell everyone the difference between the old and the new kits.
In my personal opinion, one shortcoming of the old kit is the non-scale tail feathers. All TF warbirds have airfoil shaped tail feathers, except Corsair.
