You geta little time to work with it and the excess can be wiped away.

NWRCC club is having a "Big Bird"/3D event. I talked to Kenny over there the other day, he said that if everyone that has called shows up there is going to be more than they can handle. Should be a lot of fun. I would much rather be with you guys in Baton Rouge but I just dont have the heart for pattern right now. Im still pouting over my Genesis.

Hi Alan,
Sounds good... You know I must say there really isnt much to tell.... and that is a good thing. So far everything has fit together PERFECTLY every screw, fits in its spot without the least binding but none the less is nice and tight. The sheeting is impeccable and the only sanding I had to do was a little light sanding to reapir the little dents and dings it got from my handling and that was really nothing.. All of the body work I did was with spackle and the total amount of filler I used was less than a thimble full and I sanded 99% of that away. Everything is very true so the covering layed down over everything nice and flat... The only thing Jim had me do was round off the stringers on the bottom so that the covering would lay nice and flat around the bottom of the fuse... and boy did it.
The biggest "jobs I had to do was install and drill/tap the hardpoints, sheet the cockpit floor, paint the cockpit and install the canopy. Get with me or Jim and I can show you pictures of how he had me sand an inset in the sides of the hatch so that the canopy lays flush against it... Everything else has just been time..
Tonight I finished setting up the last of the linkages.. All that is left is the pull pull rudder and Im holding off on the servo tray placement until I get everything else installed just to make sure that I dont need it a little more forward than design due to the extremely lightweight of the BME 110 Engine Im using.

Dennis, the hard points werent installed so that the end user (me) could decide where to put them basis the geometry he wanted to use. THere are a couple of different philosophies out there... I personally prefer to have the linkages at maximum advantage at full deflection and slightly less advantaged at center where the control surfaces are at rest anyway and have "relatively" balanced load above and below the surface. Therefore the hardpoint is a little closer to the shaft of the servo... Some people prefer to install the hardopint out parallel to the hole they are using in the servo arm so that the pushrod is parallel to the servo and perfectly perpedicular to the servo arm when the servo is at rest... To me this is poor geometry..

Thanks for the explanation mike. Now here's the next question..how did you make sure you drilled the hole's in the surface for the hard points straight to the surface. Did he provide the schucks.

I did it by hand.... Im just GOOD[8D]
Seroiusly, I did do it by hand but I used a 1/2" OD brass tube like you can get at your LHS to make the hole.
I simply extended the line of the side of the servo out onto the control surface then I measured out 3/8" out from that on the control surface. Next I measured back from the hinge line so that I would just clear the trainign edge balsa. Frm that point it was just a matter of marking the center of the hole and then drilling. I sharpened the end of the brass tube and cut the hole by hand. It was a bit if a chore to cut through the light ply inside but it wasnt bad.. Took about 10 minutes per hardpoint.

Yep, I talked to him today. He told me he is hard at it and making good progress. It will be worth the wait.
Purple and Yellow should look really great and show up well..
BTW I did the MAC calculation today and it looks like the CG will start out right on top of the wing tube.

I can't help but to notice the fact that this airframe looks almost identical to the Troy Built/Roman Built Von Extra. I recently received one myself from Roman Built Models. Did he sell the design? What's the story here? I have the built up wings though...balsa ribs not foam. I hope someone will be building this plane going forward.

Jim has gone out of town to marry off his last daughter... so he'll be back monday-ish. Just FYI... please wait to call til' then.
I agree... this plane is built light and right... I hope he will continue to build it. I'm trying to convence him to "outsource" some of it to cut down on the build time. Right now, he's made enough fixtures to build the plane that a kid could build it straight. (truely)
Anyway, he'd love to talk with you... call him sometime.
