Cimara

It is a real experince to say the least, Just remember if yo cut the first part on the in side of the line then make sure you cut every thing on the in side, and good luck.

Been there and dun it, this old dog started building comet kits in 1939 and over the years tryed most everything, but this scale thing and I am trying to learn

Tomcat_104,

I also wish they made the Corsair larger. I would like to see 1/4 or even 1/3 scale. Those would be very impressive especially the 1/3 scale. I have a large van at my disposal and it is used to haul 4 fully loaded shipping pallets for my mother in laws business. She does rush deliveries. I can use it after noon if she hasn't got any calls for it to be needed. She has several smaller vans for little stuff. It even has a large side door. Well when we find a bigger Corsair we will have to build it.

Happy New Year,

Gibbs

Gibbs,

I saw a Corair that had a 101" wingspan here on RCU. Unfortunately it was right before my stroke and after 4 months in the hospital (I swear they tried to kill me) I forgot about it until today. I know it was a kit but I can't recall the manufacturer. Jesse at Laserlizard will cut a Ziroli at any size and my son can scan and reproduce plans at any size. I'm thinking about going ahead and getting the Ziroli plans and having that done, then waiting to build it until my Top Flite is done. Only problem I have is that I don't have a van to haul it in. Exactly how far is it from WI to NC?

What servos have you thought about or chosen for your Corsair? I'm partial to Futaba's as that is the transmitter that I use.

David,

I still haven't ordered any for mine. I would like Futaba also as I have a Futaba Radio. I definitely want metal gears. Let me know if you get the plans and the kit made. I want to know how much it will cost.

If you all want a big corsair try Don Smith plans www.donsmithplans.com . you can get them from these websights http://www.precisioncutkits.com/instock.html#top and http://www.kitcutters.com/Smi/SmiCorsair.htm

Tomcat_104,

Meister Scale Models has a 100" Corsair. The cost for the plans, full wood kit, is $450.00 and then the canopy, cowling, oil coolers, cockpit, retracts, and gear door actuator totals about $845.00. You still have to get the engine and radio, servos, wheels, and you name it. I'm tempted to just get the kit and set it aside for the distant future to avoid price increases. What ya think?

Gibbs,

Laserlizard cuts a 140" Ziroli for $370 and a "smaller" 93" Ziroli for $200. I'll check out the Meister that might be a good one "to hold on to". I have 6 kits to be right now so, what's 1 more? I think it's called a lifetime supply in some parts of the world. And that's not counting the 5 that I have hanging from my garage ceiling. I briefly looked at h Don Smith and Precision combination. DS does make a 120" 1/4 scale Corsair. I'm worried a little about the canopy, a cowl and the landing gear. I can't make the calls I need to todat so do you know any of these answers? It doesn't sound too crazy to buy one for a later build, my friends dad keeps reminding both of us that we passed on 5 acres of land each at $1000 per acre that SOLD recently for $150,000 per acre recently. I missed the boat on that one but I'll try not to on the Corsair.

Tomcat_104,

Where do you get the rest of the things you need? Your going to have to have a canopy, cowling, oil coolers, cockpit, etc. Are there any instructions for the 140" Ziroli. I am dumb. I could order the instruction manual from Ziroli for their 93" and just use that. I wonder if things will have to be beefed up for that size. What gasser would you use in that size bird? If I took the front seat out of my van the wing would fit. What do you thing about detachable tips from the gull out? If you do it and can get me the plans I'll order one of the kits from Laserlizard and we can build it together. When is another story ???????????????????????????????????

We are CRAZY!!!

Winston,

They are at laserlizard.com. I tried to use the "link" feature here on RCU but I obviously don't know how to use it. Jesse Wilkins owns Laserlizard and has cut 2 kits for me before and is cutting a 3rd right now. He's "good people".

Gibbs,

I would get the plans from Ziroli and have them scanned then reoutput at 150%. I think I would use a DA-150 as a powerplant. I'm guessing I would have to make the oil coolers and the canopy. The cowl would be another question, my vacuum former wouldn't do something that large. The wing is a "3 piece" wing so removable wingtips wouldn't be necessary. There are areas I think would need "beefed up" and I would probably over do it. I'll check on the landing gear Wednesday or Thursday and let you know what I find. I haven't given much thought to the cockpit yet. If you find the time for it tell me where, I'll buy a 10 month supply of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tomcat_104,

I don't have the equipment to make the canopy or oil coolers. If you can make one that is scale and the right size I'll have to pay you to make them for me and pay for shipping them. I would want at least .060 thick plastic for the canopy. The oil coolers don't really matter. I think Craig at Fiberglass Specialties would custom make us a couple cowlings for them or he might already make something big and long enough. I know he makes really large cowlings and dummy radials. Him and I get along very well. If he cant. Then we will have to come up with the dimensions for the cowling and I can make a plug. I am good with fiberglass so I guess I could make those lamp shades for us. They will be big! Let me know about the canopy and cowling. You will have the plans that will show you the canopy from the side and top I hope.

Hey guys,

I talked to Dionysus Design today and they said their reducer only worked with 3.5V to 5.2V. So that ruined my plans to use a 6V sytem but Dan @ Dionysus told me if I used their isoltator (or FMAs) I could run up to 4 servos off of it at 6V and still use their reducer. The "dual reducer" has a fail-safe setting so if it ever fails youu still get full flaps. I odered mine today. Now if I just knew what servos I was going to use. My LHS recommende Hobbico MG servos. Has anyone out there used these? I am unfamiliar with them.

Hey,

Finally Tower got my main landing gear retracts in and they should ship today. I just don't know whether to build the Giant or the smaller one first. What would you guys do? The retracts are the reason I bought the other Corsair so I could build it while I was waiting for the never ending back order to come in. Now I don't know what to do first. I'm leaning on the smaller one as this is my first warbird and there are many mods on it also. CorsairJock's thread is very informative. I thought I could learn a lot building it and then tackle the bigger bird. Well I don't know yet. I am almost done with the Cub and then a buddy and I are going to build me a new 4'x8' building table. I shoul be able to start on one of the kits at the end of the month.

Gibbs I would build the smaller one first . The dirctions should help a littel on the large ziroli and its a lot cheaper if it crashes . Iwould hate to dig a brand new $1500 to $2000 engine out of a 2 foot deep crater but I am not a natural flier. JUst my 2 cents for what it is worth .David the hobbico servoes use the same gear set as the Hi tec Hs _645high torqe mg servo it also has the same specs it even looks like a hitec I bet they are the same servo but I have no profe. I am using the hi tec servos mentioned above had a cupon from tower and got them at the same price as the hobbico

cimara,

If you only make a 2 foot crater you must be fling (crashing) at half the speed of me. The last plane I crahed took two days to dig out. Our field is an old landfill so after the 1st 6" it was all thrash. By the time I found the engine I was back to 1974 according to the newspaper I found. I dug it all out only to throw it all away, how ironic at a landfill!

Thanks for the heads up on the servos. I'll look a little closer at Hobbico and Hitec (and coupons)! I too built a 60 size Corsair first (without all the mods). That was my first of (hopefully) many warbirds. Wish I knew about RCU when I built that one.

Tomcat 104 and cimara.

I think I'm going to go with the Meister 100" Corsair. That is about as big as I can really store and put past the wife. I included pictures of the accessories and the completed kit. The engine is a Zenoah 80 and Meister sells them for only $739.00 If I get into monstors I'll be bankrupt. What do you think about this plane.

cimara,

Thanks for the info. I checked there yesterday and it was like almost $1,200.00 from them. I must have press the button twice. I got my G62 from them for the Top Flite Corsair for under $385.00 plus shipping. I will get it there or use another G62 as they say it will work also. Anything from a 3.0ci to a 5.0ci will work. I am afraid the 62 will be overworked. What do you think?

Thanks,

Gibbs

Ciamira,

Just stay away from the lower altitudes and you will be fine. There's something about flying a vertical pattern that I just don't understand. Maybe you can explain it to me one day.

Gibbs,

Those are NICE planes. I can't see building a Corsair without flaps and covered in monokote. I'm partial to fiberglass and paint. I'm still looking at the Meister, if it were just a little bigger.................. I got my G-62 NIB on EBay for $229. I thought it was a pretty good deal, what do you think? I had time on my side and lost 8-9 before I found it.
