RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
I've had one since they first came out and i use a 3-w 150. Now they have a 157 with a lot more power. Anything 150 and up. Some have used 200 to 212cc, but the prop clearence gets real tight. As long as H-9 makes the plane I will keep one in my trailer. It will do anything yoiu ask of it and still fly like a big trainer. Dennis

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
I agree with DadsToy, use a 150 or above and i will always have one in my possession. the bigger engines have the power, but at a nose heavy penalty. the 3w's probably have the better power for the extra drag/lift of the ultimate, but i still like the quality of my DA150. IMOHO. do a search here in this forum for Ultimate, and also in Mike McConvilles forum. There are also a few different servo combos too, in those threads. a few threads over at FlyingGiants as well including a cannister picture thread for the Ultimate. List your questions and Im sure we can set you straight.

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
i really believe the DA is the one because the plane was built around it - has more than enough power with the right prop and keeping it light

The 3-w 157 is really the best engine out right now for this type of plane. Just because someone uses a engine does't make it better. Look at the numbers and decide for your self. Dennis

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
i wouldnt mind the extra power of the kroma 180, but there just doesnt seem to be enough of them out there to make me want to give up DA service and reliabilty yet. it could prove to be the one to beat, but only a proven track record will do for me. IMOHO...

DR who distributes the Kroma has phenomanal service as well, so dont let that be the deciding factor. The kroma is one bad mother, and it has been around for a while, but not here in the states.

The ZDZ Super 1.60 should be a real knockout on this plane too... they list 7.5 lbs (a lb lighter than the 3W 157)

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
i was actually not getting into a power war - i used the DA150 in the ultimate as it was designed around it and it was a simple bolt on concept - and all worked out perfectly with enough power anyway - now!!! if i would buy an engine today i will surely look at the others and for now the EVO 150 mag comp is what i will take!!

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
dadstoys question for you i just pick up the ultimate and was wondering about your thoughts on the the 3w 150 your running in your ultimate is it the standard or AI or QS/CS. I have a TOC Blue Head 150.
do you think I`am ok with this and do you think the 157 is that much difference. aslo do you mind me asking for your basic set up i really can`t find a build thread on this plane. thanks for any help.

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
After reading reports on the new 3-w 170, I'd have to say this is the engine of choice. The problem is ground clearance for the prop. You'd have to block up the gear and use larger tires to clear the prop. The 170 is the same weight and foot print of their 150, but has a ton more power. I just wish these engines did'nt last so long, It's hard to buy a new one when the old is running so good and Bobby won't do a straight trade. If I can sell Bob Trufurthy's Monster Pitts I'm going to get a 170 and find somthing to put it in. Maybe QQ big Yak when it come out. Dennis

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
How much prop clearance do you have with a 34" prop? I was considering this plane as a backup if something happens to my SD 40% yak. I will be using a ZDZ 210.

You'll more than ok.
I had a friend in Shreveport LA who flew the H9 ultimate on a standard 3W150 on straight mufflers. He had smoke in it also.
He 3-D'd the crap outta it all the time! Never lacked power

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
when i first started flying my plane I had a 3-w wood on it. Bobby told me to try his CF 3-d prop for the 150. I can tell you it was like night and day in the difference. It has a tapered pitch with the tips curved in. Been using it ever since. It gave me a lot more verticle then I thought you could get in a 43lbs plane and hanges at half throttle. Going to re-cover it this winter. It's starting to look bad. This will give me a chance to look inside and check the glue joints. Also I'll be able to change the servo set up and go with one each on the wings in the center. Dennis

RE: HANGAR-9 ULTIMATE
Had them just forward. I have found out that the first balance point they gave us on the first release made it nose heavy. I havn't changed it yet. I'll do that when I do the overhaul this winter. I have 4 8411's on the rudder and I'll change them out to 8711 or by then they may have bigger ones to use, or maybe one big Saiko. The wings will get one ea. 8711. I'm looking now for a color I like and a trim pattern to use. Just wish the gear was a couple of inches taller. Dennis
