David,
I'm following your son's TF Spitfire build. How are you doing? It's been a long time no hear. I hope your feeling well and helping that son of yours on his build. He seems like a nice kid.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hey Barry,
I went to one of my doctor's yesterday and he hurt me pretty bad. I thought I was okay until I didn't feel like working on my Corsair, then I knew I wasn't well off. I'm pretty proud of him (even though it's a Spitfire) he finally decided all on his own that he wanted to build. Thank you guys for looking after him and giving him good advice. I look after him but he still wants to do it on his own. Besides, he's a teenager, he'll listen to you guys better than he will to me. I told him you guys always help me so he naturally turns to you folks when he needs help. I think of you guys here as my "extended" family, I go on and on about my friends here on RCU daily! So far he seems to be following the plans faithfully (I check his work while he's at school) and when he has a question he ask you guys. Where were you guys when he was in diapers!

Out to lunch!
I had enough of that with my two teenagers. Well one and one that will be in December. Teenagers like to listen to other people more than us so I'll be happy to give him as much help as I can even though it is a Sptifire. To each and his own. I personally would build it if I had run out of other Warbirds to build. After the long term project of building the DS Corsair I want to start a WWI Balsa USA 1/4 or 1/3 scale Sopwith Pup. Ever since Flyboy's I wanted to build it. I had already commited myself to the Big Corsair which I'm happy I did, but it would have given me something to think about. The problem is I LOVE Corsairs.
Hope you feel better,
Barry

I am not to sure about doc's that hurt you, but I would hope it was for your own good, Now about teenagers mine are in there 40's and have made me prod so all I can say is just be there for them and provied alternatives from the current teen seen.
About his spit's there are a coupla of good threads hear on RCU and over in RCSB. I have an old flying buddy thats nuts for spit's and he says the only neg thing he has found is you have to beeeeef up the gear rib's and box.
wish him luck for me and smoth flying

Thanks Bob,
Yeah the prodding and poking stuff just got to me, thank goodness I only have to see this doc every 3 months.
I'll tell Josh about the Spitfire forums and I'll be sure to have him beef up the landing gear ribs and box. I hope his build turns out OK so another generation of builders will live on. He has barely started his Spitfire and he's already talking about his next build, a P-51B. He hasn't discovered girls yet so he still has the time and the money to do both builds. He says his 3rd build will be a Corsair.............................that's my boy!

Hello All,
Finishing up the rivets on the left wing panel, hope to have it done by tomorrow evening, will put up a pic when done,
finish up checking the retracts and make sure they all work right, then I can PAINT, hope to have it painted by end of October, otherwise I may have to wait till the springtime.

Don't know what kind of paint you have, but hear in MN with out heat painting is over. Weather went from hot to coooool, snd cold[>:] ,and me just getting over a bout with sevear animea it even seams colder, So I have to bundle up (my wife and son tell me I look like a dork) hi's mid 60's low's mid 30's, seems like nice flying weather every outher day wind under 10 and on the off days the wind is 25+
Still working on those pesky fillets on the 47,hopeing to have them finished with in the week, may do panel lines top only and defenatly no rivrts or screws, the rest of the build is comming along nicely, but the ferther I go the more fiddily things come up that don't show progress but I thimk once I have the fillets and the glassing done thing will speed up.
Well so much for my dribble

Mine left for college 20+ years ago and only comes back about twice a year and has not married as yet (we still hope) and it seams as the years go it gets much harder to say "till the next time" never good by thats just to final for me.

George,
That sure does look like the real thing. I hope I do as good on my 1/4 scale. I might have to send you an airline ticket and have you come and show me just how you do so good. PM or E-mail me with your technique if you have time. My E-mail address is [email protected]. Keep up the expert work!
Thanks,
Barry

I realy like your detail. So maybe next time I will try it mabe just pnl lines on the top of the 47.
Finaly got the last coat of epoxy on th 47 fillets, and with the foam fillers and plastic m/bloons the total wieght added is right at 28 grams or just at 1 oz, I have come to like weighing all mix's and then what is left over keeping a log lets me know how good/bad I am doing on wieght behind the C/G.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Anyone ever figure out what the true scale the TF GS Corsair really is? It's listed as 1/5th scale with a w/s of 86-1/2" and a Fuse length of 67" Iron Bays Corsair is listed as a 1/6th scale with a w/s of 85" and fuse length of 68-1/2" I understand the TF & IB are not a 100%"scale" planes but there is not much differance in sizes.
(Just curious)

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Got the mock up of my firewall and formers 2 and 3 done, engine mounted, and almost ready to send to Kelvin for the exhaust. Anybody have any good reference pictures or drawings that would assist me in showing the exhaust exits in detail ?
Thanks
Sam
