RE: CMP Zero Makeover
Jeff,
I am very close to being done with the P-40N. All I have to do is get the retracs working and put the decals on. I got the P-40 balanced without have to add any weight. I have not weighed the plane yet, but I think it is around 22lbs. This CMP 80" Zero will make a good sister ship for the P-40 to fly with. How is your projectc coming? You where getting close to being complete weren't you?

RE: CMP Zero Makeover
Jim, sent an email but here is the link: http://www.zingerpropeller.com/ It is a Zinger prop and spinner. I bought both. I think it is a 4.5 inch diameter and has the 18 X 8 blades.
I had them cut the spinner and make the alignments for the screws. Worth the extra $5 - $10 bucks.....
Good Luck. Would also like to hear of your flight with the P-40

MC,
Thanks I thought it might be a Zinger prop, but was not sure about the spinner. I think I will order one. I like the looks of the 3 blade better and that spinner looks more like a scale spinner for the Zero than anything else I have seen.
If everything works out right I hope to maiden the P-40 this comiong Sunday.

MC,
The maiden flight on the P-40 was great. The XYZ-50 is a good engine for this plane and the Century Retracts could not have worked any better. Here is a video of the flight.

MC,
How did the restracts work that you ordered? My Century Jet retracts just got here today, now I am waiting for the Zero to show up. It was shipped out yesterday so I hope to have it by this weekend. My Brillelli 46GT will be the power plant for this Zero and should have more than enough power.

RE: CMP Zero Makeover
Robert, going to fly the Stinger this weekend. Had an ignition problem and had to send the unit off and ended up with a diode that burnt. So, I should be able to let you know this weekend.
Jim, I am almost ashame to say I haven't been able to do much on the plane. I have gotten a little done but will take me weeks more of work. I'm hoping things will slow down here at home to be able to get back to the bench. Believe me I'm getting anxious to get these things going......I'm actually using a DA 50 in the Zero and the Brillelli 46GT is in my Giant Stinger that I've been waiting to get the ignition unit to work. So, I'll have a report this weekend for all interested.

RE: CMP Zero Makeover
Hey Bud, Try AK Models. That is where I purchased mine.
Just got my retracks and trying to install them I've pulled too much on the covering and it tore. Anyway I'm trying to match the covering and that is a bigger pain than I originally thought.
I will probably have it completed in the next couple of weeks. Put a DA 50 on the front..... We'll see. Good to hear from you again.

RE: CMP Zero Makeover
I have one, new in the box at home that I would let go. However, they are a bit less than $300 new from just about anywhere. It's tough to incur a hefty packing/shipping charge unless you are spending a lot more money for the item. If you get completely stuck and can't make it happen another way, let me know via PM and I'll find out how bad the shipping would be to your neck of the woods.

RE: CMP Zero Makeover
Hello, Everyone..... I just got my CMP Zero 80" and have been reading through everyone build threads, here and on other forums. This is my first large plane, with experiance with only Large helis, and small nitro planes. So I'm planning to take my time with this build to learn and do it right. I'm hopeing for any help from anyone willing as well, though alot has already been said as far as tips are concerned.
I am planning to put a 3MM TOC 53 inside inseptember, but until then I'll be piecing her together slowly. As far as retracts, If some cash comes my way I was thinking of centuraryjet...or holding off and useing the stock gear until I can afford the retracts.
My first question is this... While looking at the engine block and other hardware,I noticed a piece of 1/2" wide ply not in the instructions/decribed. Its the piece I am holding in the pictures.
I'm assumeing it goes on the inside firewall oposite of the engine box.??? I postedthis inFlyinggGiiants on Fishdeaths build thread as well. Sorry for the repeat fishdeath? I haven't seen it in any install shots posted by some folks.
I would need longer mounting screws if I used this block for the mounting nuts. It has the same dia. hole as the one already cut in the firewall.
Heres a pic?
Thanks Chris.

RE: CMP Zero Makeover
I think I found it. Can be used as a spacer to extend the engine box/engine further up in the cowl. I Downloaded , just for kicks the 120 size zero instructions and it is used to mount the engine mount too.
Anyways I dought I'd need to extend my engine out further... I would still like to know if you guys used it or not.
Thanks, Chris
