PJ..thas yer old byron zero an't it..i remember that to bad you still didn't have it..the meister one will do tho. Nemisis.yes this is the CMPro zero..85" span or something close to that..i'm using a 41cc with a 20x8 prop on the front...prob going to change to a 20x10 when i get it flying again. the entire gear area had to be fabricated to accept the robart retracts i put in it...i'm cutting out the wheel well to accept a 4" wheel..thats the biggest i can go before i start cutting into the spar.

Here are some pictures of the wings glassed and sanded...getting ready to head to the shop now to get it in primer!

Just got back from the shop..got the wings in primer..actually came out pretty good...some final sanding in some "heavy" spots...little bit of red filler putty to take care some "weave" spots i missed..but other than that..it came out well...used DuPont fillnsand primer..stuff works amazing, sands really easy and will fill very small imperfections. It will def. not cover up lazy prep work, but it will aid in blending. Now...back to sanding.......[&o]

Hi guys,

I am also looking forward to this report! As a friend of mine and me are planning to order two zeros and then rework them from the very beginning we are searching for input daily.

Do you think a ZG62 does fit under the cowling? To heavy for the plane? I mean we are talking about a fighter plane .. [>:]
Furthermore I have heard, that the retract mount is not the most stable one. Is that right? Are the hinges glued in out of the box?

Hope to see more pics soon.

Greets from Germany!!

Patrick,
Looking great, I hope some of the techniques are working well for you.
Looks like they are. Its gets easier with more time and experience. Keep the updates coming. Now you can have more pride showing off that ARF! You now have some elbow time in there.

RE: CMP Zero Makeover

Dollplayer...yeah i do not see why a G62 wouldn't work...the plane weighs about 20lbs with the US 41cc. The G-62 wouldn't def. be a large powerplant, just keep in mind you DO have throttle control. The 41 flys the plane scale....its not mach10fast but yet still has umph. I had to add about a pound and half up front..so a G-62 would suppliment the need for nose weight. The gear area i will admit SUCKS. Not strong whatsoever...if you look at my previous pictures the gear did end up rippin out on the second flight(mostly due to it being EXTREAMLY tail heavy) I re-inforced it with adequate strong wood, and glassed inside the wheel well area. Seems to be holding up quite well now. I had to modify the retract area a pretty good amount to get the robarts to fit in right and retract. But all in all, the plane flys great! by the way..what kind of filler putty are you all using to fill in glass "weave" and things of that nature?

Dino..just put in an order for you. THanks!

well..the zero project started momentarly moving slow...work and school hammered me yet again this week....still got some stuff done..posted are pictures of the wings ready for panel lines..awaiting an order from the master dino before i can do the panel line work..hopefully this weekend the wings will be ready for paint...anybody got any ideas for paint.i'm thinking of using the DuPont base coat/clear coat stuff. I'v painted w/ it before and it works wonders..a lil on the expensive side but i think it'll come out nice. Anyways, here's there progress.

bubs all I ever use anymore is exterior Laytex house paint, Home Depot can mix any color you want and it is a lot lighter than auto paint.

Hi Bubs,

Thanks for the reply. Again a question concerning ZG62. I am sure that it will work as you already pointed out that throttling is always possible ;) . My question is if the 62 does fit under the cowling. May you post the inner diameter of the cowling in the area where cylinder head and plug will end up?

Many thanks in advance.

Markus

RE: CMP Zero Makeover

Bald Eagle...what do you reduce the house paint with in order to shoot it out of a gun...i'm guessing any type of laytex paint thinner would work...maybe 50/50? Dollplayer...tonight when i get home from work i'll get some close up pics of the cowling with the 41cc mounted..i'll also take some dementions of the cowling for you as well....if you plan on using a G-62..be sure you re-inforce the firewall just to make sure it'll handle the tensional force of that G-62...thanks for the post guys!

While you are upgrading the scale looks of this zero, spend some time on those exhaust stubs. They are waaaaay too long and not the correct shape!

Yeah!!! OR ELSE!

bubs I use windshield washer fluid to reduce the latek and add about 1/2oz of flortrol. Youn can get flortrol at Home Depot too in the paint section. 50 50 mix is pretty close.
There was a good thread here on painting Latex by Roy Vallincourt in the warbird fourm. He also wrote the artical for Model Airplane News. It is worth a look. Rich

I thin mine down 40%. The end up mix is 60% paint, 25% water and 15% alcohol. If I could find flotrol here I would use it.

You ave to play with the mix to get it to spray right. Different brands, colors, etc spray differently.

Here is the article I used http://www.tompierce.net/190/html/paint.htm

Going the latex route is the way to go.

Patrick,
Don't forget Tamiya paints as well... VERY easy to spray, looks killer and is very light.
I shoot a coat of one part Sikkens Basefix over it and seals everything down with an awesome semi flat coat.

RE: CMP Zero Makeover

dino...that sorta looks like an arf with makeup to me!!!! haha least i an't the only one...does taymia paint come in pints..qts..ect..or is it only in aerosol, i would like to stay away from can paint jobs due to i have the materials and the shop to actually spray from a gun...

Icemanjr92 10-18-2007 10:59 AM

RE: CMP Zero Makeover

See now, you noticed! Coming from one ARFer to another...lol
I added 4.5" tires, Sierra protoype retracts and raked them forward. Much better! Anyway, the Tamiya only comes in spray cans. Which I like, I dont have to mix or drag out the compressor. Spray-n-throw away!!! Ok, but I do shoot the clear with the gun! [:-] LOL:)

This may be the scheme that I will be going with...the zeke gives me little choices of scheme's to choose from, also trying to find some scale documentation ref. online to view panel lines, hatches, rivets..ect..anybody have any ideas?

RE: CMP Zero Makeover

Dino..do you distribute tayima paint? u use a latex auto clear, or does tayima supply the clear as well?
