RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
Hi everybody! After one year registered, today I write my first post here at RCU.[]
I've received a RDS-8000 unit. The throttle stick doesn't have the same distance between extremes than the other channels (about 2/3 only). Is this normal? Can this setting be changed?

do you mean the physical distance the stick moves or the servo arm?
i can't say i've noticed on mine.. i'll have to check.

How are you doing this?

Yes, it is only the rudder channel that doesn't have dual rates or expo. But, it is possible to mix the rudder with one of the aux channels to give it dual rates if needed.

Select aux1 or 2 as your rudder dual rate switch. Example: Select etc. Page down until you see (MAS 1). Select RU. Page down. You see SLV 1. Select RU. Page down. You see 0%. Select +50 with the rudder to the right and +50% with the rudder to the left. Now turn your receiver on and move the rudder to full and while holding it there move the aux 1 switch up and then down.Watch what happens to the rudder. You'll get the idea then and can set things up the way you want.
Be careful to check every thing when you do this. My son accidentally coupled down elevator to up throttle while setting up elevator to rudder. The result was total loss of the plane.
I fixed my post 903 issue this way.

Turbo,
Just checked and all of my Transmitters are that way, Futaba, Airtronics, and Hitec. Less throttle stick travel than elevator, aileron, and rudder sticks.........RJ

Apart from this Airtronics I only own a Multiplex one, which has complete travel for both sticks, so I wasn't sure if this was right (suspected it, as the radio didn't show the TH-Hi warning when turning on with throttle stick at lower position).

Yup normal for all Airtronics, Futaba and Cirrus transmitters I have seen. Hitec up and down stick travel is the same for both right and left stick on my Eclipse. But you want to know what? I never even noticed until you brought it up.

Thanks, your post on rudder D/R is quit interesting. I'm going to try it.
Does anyone know of a way get exponential on the rudder? Just out of curiosity does anyone know way they have been leaving it out on all their radios? It sure would a nice thing to have.

You can get Expo and Dual Rate on the rudder by using the Heli program with your plane. I have done this on my .40 sized profile Ultimate. I just copied it from the airplane program. Worked great. You do lose the dual elevator function and flaperons though. I like them two features for my giant scale models so I stick with the airplane programming. I've also become really smooth on the rudder with no expo.

Does anyone out there trickle charge their RDS8000 after charging? I charge over night and use the Lil Trickler. I recently noticed that the voltage is dropping to below 9.6 on tricke if it has not been charged in a week. I could leave my JR;s and old Airtronic on trickle for months after a full charge and they were ready to go. Any ideas? I just noticed this
Also, it looks like the 2009 Tower catalog has wiped all Airtronics stuff from the pages.....? Not that it matters I guess, but most hobby shops do not carry Airtronics.

A store's ability to floor plan is based on their volume of business. If you're already carrying a large volume of Horizon and Hobbico product lines, you won't be able to move enough of the Global or Ace product lines to get decent terms with your smaller distributors. If you could stock all of the DX6i and DX7 radio systems you could sell in three months at no cost, or pay for your RDS8000 stock up front, which would you stock and sell?
As long as JR/Spectrum is kicking Futaba's tail, Tower will probably resell Airtronics stuff. I would guess that the RDS8000 is Tower Hobbies' best selling 2.4Ghz air radio under $500, even though they'd much rather be selling 6EX and 7C FASST systems. They still get a little profit from every RDS8000 they sell while at the same time increasing the market share for "other" in the JR/Spektrum versus Other 2.4Ghz radio battle.
From Hobbico's standpoint, every product that is sold to an RC pilot that doesn't come from Horizon Hobby is at least a minor victory. That's why Hobbico resells engines from Thunder Tiger and Magnum, they're not Evolution or Saito. That's why they resell some Model Tech ARFs and Airtronics radio gear. That's why Hobbico provides products to Global like Futaba radio systems, O.S. Max Engines, and Real Flight simulators. In the world of RC distribution, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
I apologize if this has been answered before, I missed it...does anybody elses trans. battery not hold a charge for longer than a couple weeks when not plugged in? From day one, mine will go almost completely dead within one or two weeks just sitting in the case.
It charges up just fine and works great at the field but drains quickly when not in use. And no I'm not leaving it on accidently.[8D]

Yup go back and look at my posts on pages 39,40 and 42. I also have one transmitter that has held it's full charge for 4 weeks now.

Hy Flyr,
I just got an email back from Global on this. My TX battery will hold the charge for about a day or two and die off. It will work fine for two hours of flying right after an overnight charge. And it dies off on trickle charge too. Anyway, they told me to send the battery back. I have a feeling there are some "funny" batteries out there if you look at earlier posts. But they can;t do more than offer to check out and replace if necessary.

RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
Thanks for the info. guys. I did go back and read thru the threads. It appears I've got a bad battery. I guess that is one reason the transmitter price was so good, they went with bad batteries!! It appears some are having better luck with higher capacity NiMH batteries. Anyway I still love the transmitter.[8D]

RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
I have had endless bad batteries from JR, both transmitter and flight packs. I solved those problems by getting batteries from SR batteries. They are expensive, but if you buy say an 1100 mah battery, it will always charge back to that capacity. You get what you pay for with batteries too.
