Default RE: Prettner Calypso Plans...

As promised I have started drawing up a plan for a CALYPSO, So far I have rough drawn up the Balsa fuse on paper based my DEAD Calypso, I have one or two changes to my drawing to make it, before I try building a test one. I should be also be able to mold a Cowl. My inital canopy will be hand carved out of balsa I will be able to then make a Vacum mold of this as well.

Once I Start my Build I will post Photos. Once it is finished any fly's ok I will post my plan

Any Photos of Hanno's one that shows closeup details would help.

Thankyou for the PIC's

They have proved very helpfull and answered a few questions, one was what the curve was for under the fire wall - : this I supect is for a RE 61 and a pipe, I won't be building mine with this feature but it could be a option, I am adding a extra former in the centre of the wing area as showen in the photo.

I am a bit closer to finishing my plan.

Should have it sorted at the end of the week.

Regards

John

The Modeltech manual has some drawings that would be very useful as a starting point if one would have an actual model to be able to measure some things. Pretty much everything is there but the section of the fuselage between the wing and stab.

Hi All

After many hours Drawing, taking measurements, rubbing out ect. I have a rough plan of a Calypso fuse.

I am going to start building up a test model to see if what is on paper will build ok. I expect that while building
I will discover a few problems.

Thanks for the support

John

PS:- Will start the build soon, then I have to draw up the stab and foam wings and then make canopy and cowl.

Have you started breaking in the S.61 yet? I'm really interested in seeing the tach readings you get with the pipe.

Prettner Calypso Plans and other jewels...

I forgot to mention the MK Arrow on Pray-Bay (pray your high bid is good enough to win the prize)...

What motor did Mr. Matt use in his Arrow? I have a NIB Rossi RE w/mixture header pipe ready to go for this new addition.

I got the Calypso number 330309439848 on the webay, the kit did not include the factory wings (I was aware of that when I made the bid). I need a set of foam cores to complete the kit. Anybody have plans for the wing or cores for sale?
Thanks

Ron, Took a look at the item. It took a while to see the note at the top regarding the Ultra wings for a quicker build. I have one of these in a stack of kits complete. I planned to list it at $250 or so and that may not be bad considering. Good luck with the foam wing search. Later, Bill

Rusty, I thought you - and others - might be interested to see what my S.61 is doing so far with a tuned pipe. I won a NIP ABC P/L set off the auction site and replaced the used ringed setup.

Here's my latest post:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=8687475

It's an impressive engine. Keep in mind that APC props are a heavier load than MA blacks, for example.

Prettner Claypso Plans...

Rainedave,

Great work on the motors. I now have a collection of props similar to Hanno's 11 x 9 custom fiberglass prop. Can you post the length and measurement methology of the pipe length?

My Calypso is 100% ready to cover. I will post photos of my model in a few days. I am struggling with the color scheme, always an issue for me. Initially, I wanted to build all of these models and recreate the orignal color scheme. After finding old photos, I have considered applying my favorite color schemes to the models or applying one of "my" original color schemes to them...Nobody cares but me.

After staring at the Calypso next to my new Dalotel...there are some significant general similarities.

Thanks BERUSTY. My current header length is 5 1/2" which seems about right for the APC 11x7. I measure the header length the same way Mac's suggests doing it (see image).

Measuring from the glow plug, along the curve of the header, to the high point of the pipe is about 13 1/2" - 13 5/8" or so.

As you know, the 11x9 will definitely need a longer header length.

Looking forward to seeing the Calypso.

Calypso...

Did you know that the Calypso was also kitted by World Engines in the mid-80's? I didn't until I visited a garage in Central Illinois over the weekend and found a Calypso, in a World Engines yellow box, manufactured by Blue Jay Models of Korea.

The kit features a foam wing/stab and a fuselage/fin that you build. Interesting directions are included with photos of Hanno's WC model.

I have a Modeltech Calypso ARC just about ready to fly.

Berusty,
I am Hanna, a fan of Hanno.
That is why I am Hanna, you will understand!!

I did see your picture of the Calypso, Taurusty (post 56, picture 1) and I want to show you a nice picture with our Emco, the lathe of the sponsor of Hanno! (see picture 2 and 3)

I also want to show you that my favored designer and pilot Hanno was awarded with the Alphonse Penaud Aeromodelling Diploma of 1987.

You can find in the FAI site:
Hanno Prettner in 1987 awarded for The Alphonse Penaud Aeromodelling Diploma.
This Diploma was established by the FAI in 1979 and amended in 1980. One Diploma a year may be awarded on the recommendation of the FAI Aeromodelling Commission to any aeromodelller of a FAI Member who has either a) obtained at least three times consecutively the title of National Champion, or b) obtained at least once the title of World Champion, or c) established at least three world records, or d) shown other outstanding sporting

When do I see the pictures of the Calypso of you?
Oh BTW Rusty, your Taurusty you better could have called Oriorusty and think about Torricelli when you have problems with siphoning.
