RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
Just got my MLD28 and i have a few question`s before running in.
Where do you guys mount the prop? two o`clock when the piston is beginning to rise up, or at two o`clock when the magnet sensor hit`s the pickup sensor?
Have anyone measured the sound level at idle/full throttle? In our club the restrictions is set at 94db, is it louder then that?
My english is bad, so be patient with me
Cheers

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
i set mine were the prop is horizontal when the motor starts hitting compression. the reason i do this is if for some odd reason i have a less than perfect dead stick landing i will not hit the prop on the ground. i had to remove and rotate the screws in the prop hub to do this. now some other people make it were the prop is verticle on the compression stroke to make is easier to start by hand. i don't know if this is true or not but i would think that it would help with vibration also with the way i do it but just a thought.

Thanks I will give that a try. I have it on an RC GUYS Super Decathlon. I was going to try a 61/8 tonight to see what that does PB

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
when you move the prop by hand you can feel the compression coming on by the resistance. for part of the rotation it is real easy to spin and then there will be some resistance. when the resistance comes on thats were i position my prop horizontaly. don't worry i am new to gassers to so i have noob questions to, that what rcu is for. i really don't know about smaller 3 blade props i have heard in imac people will use a 3 blade for noise. but i think they have less pull.

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
The MLD 28 is just fairly loud with the side muffler. You can get the pitts muffler, and it cuts the sound drastically, but you will lose 90 to 100 RPM. I dont think you would notice that in a Decathalon.

Can anyone tell me the bolt spacing for the standoffs? I want to replace a rcgf 20cc with a mld28 and want to know how close the holes are.

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
Hi Tomas / blingjuice
I don't think ANY so called standard mufflers, or pitts mufflers for that matter, can meet the 94 db noise requirement.
(Provided that this is measured at 3 meters, which you don't actually state.)
This is why, at least in Norway, you won't find anybody flying IMAC with these mufflers, everybody is using canisters or tuned pipes.
If the 94db limit is at 7 meters, then you may be ok.
Note what bjboise406 wrote:
"My club measured my MLD 28 at 10 feet it was 103. Engine runs well with a 17/8 xoar prop"
103 db is 8 times louder than 94 db!!!

Magne

How far away they measure the db, i don`t no. I need to check that out.
This hobby, so far, is for fun so i don`t think i`ll be flying under IMAC regulations any time soon. But the noise level is still a problem do. I`ve tryed to find canister that suits this engine but without any luck.

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
Tomas.
The reason I mentioned IMAC is because the noise limit is very similar to your club rules, i.e. 94 db@3m.
They also fly generally with gas/petrol/bensin engines, and need to use canisters to meet noise regulations.
Therefore I think that you need to do that aswell.
There are many companies that manufacture canisters that would suit your engine.
One of these is JMB, which has a model that is designated M40/60/270, specified for 30-45cc, but should work fine for 28cc.
http://www.elefun.no/elefun4/aspx/pr...f=393&prod=JMB Muffler M 40/60/270 K10101&kategoriID=10000
http://www.jmb-brecka.com/index2_uk.htm
I think the main problem is not finding a canister, but finding room for it in the model, if this is not designed for this.
Unfortunately a lot of models are not designed for proper noise limitation.
Regards,
Magne

Ive seen the one on elfun but i allsow need a header that fits the MLD. That has been the main issue, and of course space problem.
I really don`t want to modify the internal of the plane. But i guess I don`t have any choice.
Ive ordered the rear style pitts muffler just to hear how it is, only 30$.
Thanks again.
