I was considering mounting it inverted but just chose to go horizontally. As far as the maiden goes, it's either been too windy, too rainy, or a combo of both. Hoping for a nice weekend sometime soon...

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I saw your picture before! It does look very neat. Did you try fitting it inverted without success, or did you choose to mount it horizontally?? What's the hold up with the maiden then????

Ahhhhhhh..... I dont miss Ohio weather at all. I hardly had good flying days when I lived there so I understand the hold up on the maiden.

Hey all. Just roaming thru the thread and noticed mention of a servo speed controller. This is the one I use on my c-182 and my giant turbo porter. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=8863. It is compatible with all servos including digital, reverses, adjustable speed for up and down separately, compatible with 2.4 gig and 6.0 volts. Bob http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vMDWVc5NEg

Cowboy- I like the way it sounds at idle, and midrange, but at the top end without any baffling, its a little louder than the stock muffler mabe. However, with packing, all the pings and high pitch tones go away, so thats what I'm making now.

Hi all,
I recently picked up an Airtronics SD-10g. This thing has switches everywhere and I was wondering how I would go about putting the lights on one of the switches. I thought I read somewhere that you cna some sort of switch for this. Anyone have any they can reccomend. Exactly how does it work? I'm assuming it gets put on a channel on the reciever.
Thanks!

I am thinking about using an opto switch that is used for a kill switch for gas engines. HK has a receiver controlled switch, but you have to do some fancy wiring with it according to the reviews.

Opto switch....huh....so basically it provides power when it's switched, but kills it when it's off. Are they pretty easy to install? I've never used one before as I have no gas, just glow planes. Any particular one you recommend? I don't want to spend a fortune, they're just lights, but it would be a nice feature.

Thats how it works.....There is one that you can find in the "other" forum for sale ads made by RC Excel. If you find it at the right time you can catch it for $19.95 shipped. It is easy to hook up, you need another battery such as a receiver pack. There is one wire that hooks to the rec., one to the batt, and one to the lights. It has an LED indicator light on the switch, but you could either use that ass cabin lighting or cut it off (you may have to test that, I am not sure if it will mess the circuit up by removing the LED)

attached are pictures of what I did. I used a receiver switch and operated it with a servo and added an extra charge port to the side of the fuse next to the receiver switch. You will haveto add an extra 5 cell receiver pack or a 2 cell lipo battery to power the lights.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Very invintive switch idea! Think I might do that for my choke lever, instead of reaching my finger into the nostral of the cowling to flip it open or shut.. hm.. Anyway, I have been finding more to my list of issues with this plane. First was missing pieces when delivered, then the month wait to get them, the warped cowl that I had to modify to semi fit correctly, and now the method in which the soldering was done for the lights. Had to take the beacon off to c why it flickers or wont work, and it was from the resister on one of the wires directly under the light breaking one of its itty-bitty leads clean off. My red nav light is doing it too, but getting that one out will cause me to cut out the clear plastic lense over the led just cut the led out and re-solder it too, then repair my hack job afterwords. Not to mention the landing gear design issue and wire thickness.. Mabe no-one else is having these problems, but it's not making me happy... Love the plane dont get me wrong, but it's always the little things that getcha.. At least I'm not bored!

I had the same problem with the resisters I found some at Radio Shack and replaced the ones that broke. The wire is very brittle on the resistors that are supplied with the plane. I have an Evolusion 26 in mine and set up the choke on a servo to open and close it.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Did you place the new resistors back in the same location? Or further down the wires? How did you do the nav light removal? I'm actualy thinking of spending the 200 smackers on the sun-vis lights from electrodynamics to replace the stockers, and add strobes... Mabe. We'll see.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
I got the nav light lense off. I actualy managed to not cut or deform it! yay me! I had to however scrape around the outside of the led to help break it free of the glue holding it in to the wing tip to pull it out. And just like the beacon, a resistor lead soulder failed.. I see a paturn here![:@] So I will have to see what I can do to fix the welds( redo them all on all the lights) and secure the wires to each other to stiffen them straight and solid. I hate doing things more than once, so I will do them all at the same time. Q/C needs improvement there in china ha???

Hi All,
I was going to put either a 91 FS or more likely, a 75AX into my 182, but with funds a bit tight I am now thinking of using a NIB TT Pro 61 that I already have in the shop. What do you guys think. I did read through this thread from the start at one point, but I cannot remember if anyone has tried this combo yet...

Thanks for the input. After my post I was asking myself why I would do that - I am really on the fence. I guess if I had my druthers, I would look at a FS or definitely a 75 as a minimum, but as I mentioned , I do have the TT in the shop waiting for a home. I'll have to think about this one....

Hi guys
Just wondering if a 13*8 prop is big enough to power this beast. Powered by a FS OS 91 and just wondered if it will be fine or should I go bigger
Thanks in advance

I'm using a 15-6 K Series Master Airscrew on my Cessna / OS FS91. It seems to be the ideal size...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Well, finally got to maiden my Cessna. Final configuration: Zenoah G20ei using 32:1 Klotz oil and premium E10 gas, Master Airscrew 15 X6 K series prop, Hitec HS-325HB servos all around (except of Hobbico mini servo on navigation light switch), EMS Heavy Duty DSC Switchs for ignition and radio, Hobbico HydriMax 5C 6V 2000mAh NiMH for radio, Hobbico HydriMax 4.8V 2000mAh NiMH for ignition, Hobbico HydriMax 4.8V 750mAh NiMH for nav lights, Spectrum 2.4 Ghz rx and Dx6i tx. All up weight (without interior kit) 12 lbs 8 oz. Was just a tad nose heavy at the recommended CG.
Observations: G20 provides plenty of power. Half throttle gives a nice scale like cruise speed. Looks like stock gas tank provides a good 10 minutes + of flying. Did not have to give any trim (surprising). It was a little breezy today but the plane handles well as you would expect for a plane this size. As it was a little windy and I was just getting use to the plane, did not try the flaps. On landing I had it lined up well but had a flame-out so came up short of the runway and ripped the nosegear mounting block off the firewall. What was the old Microsoft Flight Sim scenario, "Cessna with no power equals heavy glider with short wings". That's about right. Also looks like the nose wheel suffered some kind of insult on takeoff as it had a big flat sopt in it and the bottom forward section of the wheel pant was cut up. So, remount the nosegear and replace the wheel and I'll be ready to go.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Congrats on the maiden with the G-20. It was also a fate of mine to buckle the nose gear under on the maiden. Mine was durring a 3rd landing, and caught a tiny patch of grass growing up from the runway( I have since removed said obsticle). I had to repair the underside of the nose, rear of the cowl(had cowl off for first flight) and repair hole in firewall. Still running the stock nose gear with bandaid-patched wheel pant, but do my damndest soft field landing from then on, even on the asphault runway, so as not to repeat or one-up the last catastrophy. Working on a new set-up for the firewall on the computer though. a scale(ish) tubular engine mount for my current G26ei on now, designed and welded up, with supporting Robats nose gear.. Wish me luck. And to you all as well. -Oh! almost forgot, I baffled the exhaust I made, and it did just that. it dropped me down to 8,200-8,500 rpm peak. It was also verry restricting, so yet another attempt is in the works for an even better one... ok thats all I've got.. Happy flying to everyone!!
