Default Buddy cord between 14mz and 18mz

I am trying to use a buddy cord between an 18MZ and a 14MZ. I first of all I tried to use the Futaba Wireless buddy box with no luck. It works OK betwwen a 10channel futaba and a 7 channel futaba. I was told by a futaba dealer that I need a special cord because the voltage of the two sets is different.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Per the chart in the 18MZ manual, you need to use this trainer cord:

FUTM4405 MM-TC-FG 12FG TRAINER CORD US$44.99

We'd not know why the wireless system would not work. You do have to have the student's transmitter set to PPM and using a 2.4 GHz module. The module must be set to 7-channel mode if you're using the TM-8 module. Or you can be using a TM-7 module.

If you're using the 14MZ as the master transmitter, then you must set the 18MZ to 7-channel mode.
