Default Futaba 12Z gimbal modification

Bax,

Can you please give your opinion and/or suggestions on the following modification that I would like to do.

I am thinking of buying the new Futaba 12Z but I want to swivel the right stick 45 degrees counterclockwise. This will give me elevator in the 10 o'clock direction, and aileron in the 2 o'clock direction. Just like on for instance the multiplex royal evo (although the evo only allows for 15 degrees swivel)

Now as far as I know this is NOT one of the standard possibilities of the 12Z.

To do this, I think I will have to open up the Tx, unscrew the entire gimbal unit, rotate it as I want it, drill new screw holes to fix the gimbal unit in the new position, and re-fix the unit.

Now can you please give me some suggestions:
Is there sufficient room in the 12Z to do this mod? I don't mind cutting away superfluous plastic from the gimbal units (this was necessary when I did this mod on the futaba 8). But there might for instance be electronics (circuit boards) that simply don't have enough spacing and can't be moved either.
Or, maybe you someone could take some pictures of the gimbal area next time Futaba has a 12Z opened up for service? That might help me estimating if this modification can be done before actually buying one.

Default RE: Futaba 12Z gimbal modification

There is just no room whatsoever inside the transmitter case of the 12Z to modify the stick positions as you're asking about. The case is much too close to allow clearance for the stick boxes on one side, and the main circuit board goes between the stick assemblies in the center with close clearance, too. While the bezels of the stick assemblies appear round from the outside, the sticks assemblies are actually in boxes that hold the bearings and springs, along with anchor points for the wiring.

As far as we can tell, your modification cannot be performed.
