homelite 26cc quits when hot
I've got an eight year old homelite 26cc engine that started having problems starting and running last year. this year I bought a new carb and tank for it that helped for a little while. now it starts really well, throttles up nicely and idles well for about 10 minutes, then it quits and won't restart.
I'm not sure of what to do for it and I would appreciate any advice or help anyone can share with me.
thanks,
Terry

When it quits can you see through the fuel line if it's drawing fuel when rotated?
If not:
Have you checked the compression when hot?
What condition are the reed(s) in?
Are all of the bolts tight and gaskets good on the case .jug and carb block? A bad gasket can leak when the metal gets hot and expands.
As stated open the low end on the carb a bit.
If it's drawing fuel:
Have you checked the coil? A cracked coil or a coil going south can be intermittent when hot.
Coil-flywheel gap OK? Check with a business card.

Sounds like the ignition system has become sensitive to temperatures now. it could be the ignition module, or the points or the condensor, but the magneto (ignition coil) could be starting to fail too. One other thought is if the carburetor has a heat isolation block on it to help prevent it from getting too hot and developing a vapor lock situation too. If the engine has points, they could be closing up when hot.

thanks for the suggestions. you've given me a couple of things to try.
if all else fails, I'll just put her out to pasture.

Or convert it to electronic ignition with an RCEXL module?

I had one like that that turned out to be the pulse port to the fuel pump wasn't lined up on the gasket between the carb and spacer, ran just fine for half a tank then just died...
