I bought another 31cc Ryobi 700r to convert for airplane use yesterday and noticed something strange the first time I tried to start it while still in the weedeater. The starter cord was kind of hard to pull, like it actually had some compression. Ran one tank of gas through it weedeating around the house, it was running great, accelerated very quickly. Went ahead and tore into it and sure enough, they have made some changes. The piston now has two rings, the exhaust port has been changed, it now has a Zama carb. Just ran it for the first time with a prop, big difference. Your standard electric starter won't turn it over anymore, no problem, it hand starts EASILY! It was turning a Pro Zinger 18x6 at 7400rpm with the stock muffler. This is 200rpm better than my single ring Ryobi with a modified carb and noisey muffler. Got to go try some different props and exhaust on the new motor, but after just one tank of gas I can tell you that the folks at Ryobi have made this little motor better!

I made my own, but you can get one from B&B, Jag engines, Carr precision, RS engines and probably a few other places.

Have you ever had problems with lateral pull on the bearings?

Are they of good quality and have they stood up for you?

don rooks.... if you're asking me I don't see much problem on the XL12 engine because it using flat needle bearings for thrust washers just like an automatic transmission. I haven't finished that motor yet but I'll let you know how it works out after I'm done with it.
