Default EQUIVALENT GAS ENGINE TO GLOW ENGINE?

What are the equivalent gas engine to glow engine values? Say you have a 25cc gas engine, what does that equal in a glow engine?

GAS 2C Glow 4C Glow
25cc = ? ?
46cc = ? ?
50cc = ? ?

I would like to possible substitute a gas engine instead of a glow engine and need to know what the equivalents are. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Comparing gasoline engines to four cycle glow engines is like comparing two cycle glow to four cycle glow. The four cycles have about two thirds the powerof 2c glow, but swing a bigger prop. The same holds true when comparing gas 2c to glow 4c. So gas 2c would have about the same power as a 4c glow with more weight in most cases for gas. A bigger prop really makes up for other short comings, but it will fly slower. You also need to watch the wing loading with the heavier gas engines.

GAS 2C vs Glow 4C Glow
25cc = 1.5ci
46cc = 2.7ci
50cc = 3.0ci

I have converted 4 different makes of 4 cycle gassers, 25 to 34cc..NONE would swing my 18-6 Mejzlik test prop within 1000 rpm of my bone stock G26....25cc four stroke torque is a myth....
Do a search, it's all here somewhere...
Closest was a Shindaiwa 34 with a bigger carb, 8000 rpm...1000 LESS than a G26...
A 64.9 Stihl backpack blower( I converted 4) runs about like a G62, maybe a little stronger..Same myth..

Isn’t it commonly accepted that glow engines develop 20% or so more power than a same displacement gas engine?

I didn't try glow in the four strokes, but a G26 picks up 600 rpm when running on glow, all other factors equal...9000 rpm to 9600 rpm...About 7%
Many "commonly accepted" things about airplane engines are a little hopeful

Hi Ralph,
I was comparing two cycle gas to four cycle glow. This was the original request. My glow four strokes run better on larger props then my two stroke glow engines. A four stroke gas engine takes a double hit in performance.

Another contributing factor between Nitro versus Gas power is the nitro methane. The original intent of nitromethane was to make small engines run as reliable as possible and produce better power. Most early RC engines ran pretty poorly on gas and diesel, especially at idle. To my knowlege there isn't that much physical difference between the engines.

Do you already have a plane needing an engine? As others have alluded to, a gas engine of comparable power will need to be larger CC than the nitro counterpart. I really only think this is an issue if you have the size limitation based on chosen plane or if you want a performance plane.

If your choice for gas is budgetary then there are lots of inexpensive tricks to boost power.

Haven't tried it, but I don't think a YS140 running on gasoline and igntion would have near the power it has on glow with the high percentage of nitro they use....It's a grey area.....

Hello,
Model ignition engines had left the scene years before carborated R/C engines arrived in the late fifties. Glow fuel had replaced gasoline many years earlier. The first R/C engines had dual needle valves and were called two speed engines. So no one ever tried to idle model ignition engines commercially.

Turn off the bold letters. This is not a chat room.

No one else seems to have a problem with the bold letters. I would think that if RCUniverse did not intend for people to use BOLD letters they wouldn't of given the option at the top of each message screen now would they???

Thats a pretty rude and sarcastic way to respond to my request.

The "bold" is supposed to be used to accentuate certain letters or phrases. NOT your entire post.

It's considered "yelling" to use all bold in your posts.

WHY do you feel the need to use all bold in your posts? Do you think that noone will pay attention unless you yell at us?

More likely the other way around. Your more likely to get ignored by yelling at everyone all the time.

It's just a suggestion.

Well, I wasn't trying to be rude or sarcastic, just stating a point as you were. I have always posted my many posts like this and never had any problems with anyone asking me to not do it and I never had any problems with them not responding to my posts. Actually, yelling at someone over a texted based forum as this, would be typing in ALL CAPS not bold faced print. I have done it this way to make it easier to read, as a lot of people out there don't have the best eye sight to read the small print, not because I am afraid no one will pay attention to me. But like I said, I never had a problem with it. I am sorry that you do. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though and sorry if it had offended you or anyone else in any way. I will take your suggestion and not BOLD my posts from now on. Thanks...

I do. I hate that stuff and the people who use all caps too.

A smaller type size and a different font would be easier to read. Normally it is the content that you want people to read. Cute usually means someone has discovered a new computer feature.
