Or two diodes in series.
John
What are the specs on the 2 diodes you would use. Maybe I would try that myslf sometime. Thanks Capt,n
I used 2 1n4007's in series. You can get a variety pack from radio shack for about 3 buck. My pack had 5 4007's in it.

Thanks William... I take it that your reply is to say that the wire in the middle that states RPM goes to a tach and serves no other purpose... I had considered that it went to the receiver.... but seems not..... can I just let that connection just be unplugged as I have not heard anyone talking about a tach connector on their gas engines....

thanks... Richard

You can leave the connection unplugged

I still like a hand-held tach because once it's tuned and running well I don't need a constant check on the tach. I guess it could be nice to use one of those plastic Ernst plug port fittings to plug the tach into...

Bob

That is one great idea, use a Ernst plug to plug the Tach into. I will try that on my new project.

Thanks - John k

I've read that the DLE30's carb isnt the best walbro clone, would i be better of using a Walbro WT-793 (from a CRRC 26cc) or is this a pointless move?

Thanks for the reply. I do have the coil spring in place. I cannot see that it is needed IF you grind, dremal, or cut the ridge where the cap comes together so when you install a good worm gear clamp you will have probably the best ground connection you can get, place the clamp on about where the hex is & shove metal boot on while you tighten the clamp...tight! Check tightnes on clamp from time to time...along with all other fittings that can lossen up. Smoooth landings....got to get ready for Church. Capt,n

Keep the original carb .... works great for most people. There were reports about the carb on the original side carb engines being less than great but I believe the QC has improved on the later ones. Also, there can always be a bad one from time to time. Don't judge the whole lot by one bad example.

I could never see the need for the spring in the cap. The caps fit so tight when you put them on and they are always hard to get off .... how could they not make good electrical contact. If anything they make it harder for some people to install the cap correctly. They can interfere with correct installation of the cap. I prefer not to use them.

I will email the DLE company & ask about that spring. Maybe they see something we miss. Capt,n

The springs function has been explained here many times. It is to enhance the ground capability of the plug cap, it also helps prevent RFI in the event the caps fit becomes less than ideal from wear. It's true the engine doesn't need it to run but I use them for the previously stated reasons, when they're installed correctly they do not hinder the installation or removal of the plug cap.

Well stated, Jody.

I discovered a loose cap during the past flying season. I will never know if the spring actually averted the loss of an airplane, but a deadstick at a very bad time can easily end up that way.

In any event, it didn't hurt. One more contact area is never a bad thing.

I well understand the spring's purpose. I just wonder if its use and proof of concept was ever really tested. Strange that DA has a similar (almost identical) cap to Rcexl and they don't use a spring. Also, Rcexl ignitions supplied as an aftermarket part don't use the spring ... unless they recently started supplying them. Just seems like a useless part to me unless proven otherwise to this old hard head. If I had a loose cap, I'd just go the hose clamp route.

The springs are supplied by Rcexl with the DLE ignition, Rcexl sells them separately. Besides the DLE ignition the only ignition that Rcexl includes them in is the one for 1/4-32 spark plugs. The spring goes into the cap large end first, to install the spring into the cap, squeeze the spring flat between your thumb and finger, push the spring into the cap on its edge until it slips into the cap then rotate it down into the cap, use a small screw driver to straighten out and organize the coils.

No one says you must use the spring, useit or not, it's your call, I do. I'm not going to try to talk anyone into it's use or prove anything about it, it's a pretty simple concept to understand and extremely easy to use, that's enough for me.

What do you think guys...since the DLE30 is not going to be "new" in 2011...should we then start a thread called ...2011 news about the DLE 30. It is simple to do and maybe start with the main specs....Just a Idea ....Capt,n

Not a bad idea.

I've thought for some time that the word "NEW" should be banned from thread titles because stuff is only new for a relatively short while. It's funny to stumble across a thread that is 6 or 7 years old with the NEW still in the title!!
