I used the DA 50 3" standoffs and still had to cut the firewall......but I also wanted the engine to set 1" further forward. With this setup my carb sets infront of the firewall. Cuting the firewall isn't hard....just remember that it has built in offsets.

I have 2 sets of standoffs, the stock ones that come with the DA which I believe are 2 1/2 or something like that and I also have a set that are 3 1/4. Will the 3 1/4 be too far forward ?

Thanks

scary first flight. Once in the air I had to add more clicks of up than I could count to get to level flight, after a couple turns around the field I set up and landed safely. it was then that I found that at the leading edge of the stab the elevator was down 3/16". Balance is 1/8" tail heavy from spec. ZDZ50 with a 22x8. Once trimmed to level I ran at all power setting with no change in attitude. Wings and stab all lined up. Anyone have any ideas or is this normal (first gasser).

lal,
You say your CG is 1/8 inch back from spec.....is that 6 5/8 inches back from the leading edge close to the Fuse? If that is correct, I would consider that just a tad nose heavy, 6.5 is a good starting point, but these large models can tolerate quite an aft CG. There are some pilots on this thread flying at 7 1/4 with no real issues. That would be the reason you required so much nose up trim. Can you also confirm your Horizontal Stab incidence for us, and both are the same. Sometimes during shipping, the covering loosens on these ARFs, Requiring the control surfaces to be straightened by reshrinking the covering.

Stock DA 2.5" standoffs work perfectly.

Thats right 757. I used the 2-1/2" also and did no cutting on the motor box. Simply set the FW back 7/16" and epoxy and pin lug strips in front of it and those 2-1/2"ers will give you a 1" protrusion.

mine came in today, looks great, this is going to be sweet, does anyone have the manual they can email me, i downloaded the one from troy built models, but a few of the pages dont show up right with acrobat reader, there is some "blank" spots, i could go through and ask you guys to fill in the blanks, or maybe there is another source? would the 33% be the same, i could try one of the others on tbm site, if someone can email me a good copy, please do, [email protected]
i cant wait to start messing with this baby, still no motor, should be here soon though, thanks

I have a question about the elevator setup, I just can't get mine to throw evenly, well they are real close but not perfect. What am I missing? I am using a 9C Super, I just got the radio and since then I just can't get them even. I have only setup dual elevators twice, so maybe I am going about it all wrong. Is there a document or could somebody explain to me a straight forward way of doing them, linkages and all.

Also does anybody have their rates in degrees? What are you using for low/high rate settings?

Thanks,

CY

I got mine from Graphtech, and it is the best gear I have ever used way stronger than the stock stuff, the stock gear is OK but is a little soft.

thanks for the manual, that was quick, i noticed they show those pin hinges, mine has big plastic hinges, looks like ca hinges but grey plastic, are they good or should i use the pin hinges? also should i use wood glue with those or epoxy?
cyoung: thanks again for the manual, the one i downloaded from tbm lists the folowing rates, you may want to confirm with someone who has the plane already set up, but this is what is listed
ail-18 low, 30+ high
ele-18 low, 40+ high
rudder-25 low, 45 high
those are all in degrees

Cyoung, try this site, it has info on setting up twin servo elevators and also addresses servo lag;

Conrad seems like I use channels 2 and 5 or 2&7. I can't explain it very well without my radio. My radio is at my shop, I'll try to remember it tommorrow. OH and BTW our fun fly is this weekend , saturday, if you like to join us. I'll email you a flyer.

TBM sells graphtec gear but for the 30% AM yak its only around $50

$70 just for laning gear seems like alot but it would be nice, is the TBM $50 gear the same graphtec as the $70 graphtec gear, if you catch my drift..........???????????

my yak had 2 degrees neg in the stabs,or high on leading edge if you will, and needed alot if up trim to fly level.i took the alinment holes and filed them out to a 0 position and then put in a piece of brass tube to go from side to side flush and ca'd it in place and then went in from the servo holes and epoxy'd the inside, fixed it right up

cyoung450: I have the twin elevator set up on the YAK with an 8UAPS, in my radio the elevators go in channel 2 (right) and channel 8 (left) then you cancel the other two options for the elevator function as this will make the elevators and ailerons move at the same time. So you set those two at 0 or -100 (can´t remember exactly which)
After you have the two elevator moving in the right direction you have to use the ATV´s to get them to move equally.
Hope this helps.
John

CY

For setup the guys at http://www.teamflyingcirkus.com/newindex.php have put together a great video. Everything is discussed.

DD I would suggest reading this thread from the first post. This thread is the best builders manual you will ever get.
