More important is how the incoming air is ducted over the cooling fins. Just like full scale aircraft it is important to have baffles in place in order to force the air over the head and out the bottom. You can cut out the whole bottom of a cowl and still have an overheating issue because the air is just sort of swirling around going nowhere. Search for a guy name Pe Riviers over in the gas engine thread, he has passed away, but his knowledge of proper cooling is excellent.
Nice big cowl Vincent, you don't want to have a lot of compressed hot air running around in a few mini tordadoes stuck up against the firewall. That only helps reduce the amount of incoming cooling air. Air exit space should be 2 to 3 x the incoming air space. Very nice build__________________

[HR][/HR]And more important if air flows too quickly through a cooling plenum it does not have time to collect heat, which is often the case where only a front end guide is used. A plenum, properly constructed slows the airflow, permitting time for the collection of BTU's. The front of the cylinders generally run considerably cooler than the rear, leaving a lot of room for further heat collection as the air flows to and through the cylinder fins to the rear of the cylinder. In effect, in a correcly designed cooling plenum, cool air (relatively) is still introduced to the back of the cylinder. The hottest part of a cylinder is usually right around the exhaust outlet, so capturing that area does a lot all by itself.

Here are a couple of photos I shot of my Edge last night with the wings and tail installed. Not much more building left, then I can get ready for glassing the fuse.

Thanks Tom. I weighed the plane as you see it in the last photos, the engine and muffler are under the cowl and the elevator servos and rudder servo are also installed. So far I'm at 11.4 pounds. My target weight is 16 pounds, it will be close...I hope to make it!

No glass yet Leroy, on top of the kaos that is my life at home, at work I have been prepping/training two of my students for an upcoming national automotive competition in NYC. This has been taking a LOT of my time. My poor Edge has been neglected! I'm lucky to just have the time to check in on your progress and the progress of Robert's creation as well as Kevin's SW!

Had a couple of hours to build this morning so I thought I would tackle the throttle servo placement. This location was not the place the plans had called for, I decided to put it here to shorten the throttle cable and have better access. The tray was reinforced with some balsa tri-stock underneath and epoxied into place.

Was just curious. When I was following your SW build you took the same (or similar) trip with a couple of students.
How long have you been taking students to comps and how have you faired over the years if its been multiple times ?

Kevin, I have been entering my students in several competitions for the past 30 years. This event (National Automotive Competition ) in NYC I didn't go to last year but have gone many times over the years, too many to remember exactly maybe around 12 times or so...thanks for asking
