Bill I had a G-45 in mine and it was slow and sluggish in the air. That 18% wing thickness is a drag! On the new one I changed the wing to 15% thickness and will use a 55cc engine.
I'n no fan of overpowering planes to where you could be sitting on the runway, open throttle and pull strait up and have the plane accelerate as it's going strait up like a rocket but I don't like Sig Kadets flying rings around my low wing sport plane in the air either.

Hmmmm, have to rethink this then. largest engine I have is an SPE 43, but that has a home...
G38's seem to go rather cheap on auction site but the G62 doesn't! must be popular still, or simply got lucky...

Got to watch the power rating on those old designs. I think the 120" wing span Bud Nosen Cessna 310 calls for two .60's
I guess there was less gravity back then, I seen to recall being able to run faster and jump higher thirty years ago than I can today.

Looked up a video on the old belt drive systems. I was shocked to see how a Rossi 60 yanked a 1/3 scale Pitts off the ground.

Well I was asking because I have one that needs an engine and iwanted it to have good power and not just plug it around. I ended up getting a Crrc 50cc 4.9hp engine over a heavy zenoah g62.I wanted it to have unlimited vertical

Plus I think you might have problems balancing it with a light engine up front.

yes I thought about that it being light but at 4Lbs not including battery and etc it should be close to 5Lbs on the nose. I thought about a Dle55 as its powerful but lighter than the crrc engine. I have eye balled a DJ70cc engine at milehighrc.com do you think the crrc pro will be too light? and where in the cg for this airplane?
QUOTE=rtn9105;12125347]If unlimited vertical is your goal I think you'll be disappointed with the 50cc engine. My sweet n low weighed around 23lbs and had a FPE 4.2 (69cc) and didn't have unlimited vertical. I think the only way I would've gotten unlimited vertical was with a 100cc twin.

I don't know the original factory suggested CG location, I balanced mine with the nose pointing a little downward at 30% of the wing cord to start.
I looked on the CRRC site and they say the 50cc weighs 3.63lbs including the muffler and ignition. The FPE 4.2 I used weighs 5.5lbs all up. Your plane may be built lighter than mine was, put it on a CG stand and see if you can get it to balance.
