OK The gear is on and its on all 3 wheels - as you see we used a larger fender washer to screw down on the gear- and also we decided to cut the cowl for the exhaust and let the pipes show in-stead of the flex tube- i like the sporty looks of the exhaust exposed......

Good call on the fender washers, I was gonna post about that too. I had some thick fender washers I got from Micro Fasteners that don't bend when you tighten them up and I also put some on the bolts that hold the tail section on as well as the front wheel on the inside of the firewall.
For the tail bolts I had to lightly dremel sand some high spots in the fiberglass where the washers come in contact with the inside of the fuse to give it a nice flat surface to clamp to.
I kind of like the exhaust coming out of the cooling vents in the cowl like the real Cessna but thats whats great about this hobby, everyone can build to suit their own taste.
Did you get your flaps and ailerons glued in yet? I've been messing with the flaps and hinges to get the fit just right before I epoxy them in, quite a challenge since the wings are not exactly perfect when hand made, lots of adjustments. ugh!

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Hey Tshark and Spider-I bought the flex tube(1.25" tube ID) for the exhaust -and my intention was to make it scale at the bottom of the cowl- but i was concerned with the cooling- im running a 3 blade prop and Mario had cooling issues withhis 3 blade prop-plus I need the room in the cowl later for the baffling- as you see in the photos of my 40% Sbach i made nice carbon fiber baffles with metal ears over the enginefins for the DA150- so thats what i have in mind in the future for the Cessna- besides i can close the holes up later in the cowl and do the flex tube- i have great friends that fiberglass like pros (that helps alot in this hobby) and also in the photos are my Pilots from Axels pilots only took about 6-7 months to get. (LOL)....worth the wait.. how is eveybodys build coming out?

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
here are some more build shots- ok the cowl bolt on blocks (4) were set in too far and was making the cowl stress in (the screw was making a dent in the cowl) so we placed wook spacers on the blocks-next the wheel pants covers were placed on- and Kevin made a nice Battery tray in the floor of the cessna - as much work this plane is its just so beautiful......

sorry it kicked me off and i did not think the text loaded so here are the pics - i do have a ? about the nose wheel spring- it seemed very stiff untill i installed it- now the weight of the fuse keeps it compressed down- im wondering if when i put on the tail section if it will help lift it off the nose with the tail weight? or is thier a stiffer spring i should get????

Wow Sal, that's looking fantastic!
I see you guy's contoured the wheel pants/gear covers too, they came out great.
It looks like your front wheel strut spring is collapsed, or is it just loosened temporarily.
Also, does your front wheel pant have some kind of a square cover around the strut? Mine doesn't have one of those, it looks good. Did you guy's make it or did Ijust not get one?
I really like the blue carpet on the floors, nice.
I've been getting my flaps / ailerons all fitted and glued in, man, what a challenge. I fitted and adjusted and measured and fitted and adjusted etc. etc.so many times before gluing them in, but it payed off in the end as it looks like I got them just right.
So here are some pics of what I've been working on with the wings.
Itaped some wood shims to the wings to keep the space correct while Iepoxied in the flaps andthe wingside of theaileron hinges. Then removed the shims and epoxied in the ailerons, matching them to the flaps length.
I had to shorten and reshape the flap horns because they were hitting the wings. I don't think TMMY has redesigned the shape of thesehorns to match the new flap hinge's movement. I saw someone else mention having to do this too.
The landing light switch also needed to be repositioned.
The flaps are getting exactly 30° deflection with these hinges.
I'll have to make another post to get the rest of the pics in.

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
The aileron control horn is way off to one side for lining up to the aileron access panel. I looked at pictures of Mario'sailerons andhis horn is on the 21st rib on the aileron (counting from the flap end) and mine is on the 22nd, which is why it is so far to one side.
Whats that all about? It almost looks like his ailerons have less ribs. Maybe they had to make a new mold for the ailerons and the position is different.
I just went and looked at some more pictures of different Cessna's from TMMY, old and new, and it looks like there have been changes in various parts along the way. Probably different vendors, design changes, mold changes, etc. etc. through the years.
It's kind of like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna' get! lol

Hi Spidernad;
Just jumping over from my 185 thread.
This may assist you. I also was concerned with the aileron horn positioning on the 185 wing. I thought perhaps could have been moved 1/2" or so inward, but worked out ok.
I pre measured a few times before cutting the access hole in the servo plate.
(see attached pics)
I also had to trim the flap horns to allow full deflection of the flaps.
I do like the dual flap horns that Tommy now adds to the flaps.
Keep up the good work on the assembly.
Regards
Randy

Hey Randy,
I've been following your thread for the Cessna 185,you'vereallydone afantastic job on that plane, it looks beautiful.
The aileron horn will be OK, in a perfect world it would be a little more to the center but no worries really.
I was looking up the full flap angle on full scale Cessna 182's and they go 40°, the current flap hinges on this model go 30° so I guess it's just another thing I'll have to live with. Life could be worse, right?
I was thinking of extending the grooves in the flap hinges for more travel but I don't want to weaken it so I'll probably just leave it.
Keep up the great work.
Dan

Hey Spider- yes only 30 degrees in the new flaps- also i would like to know about your nose gear spring pressure after you install iti bet it will collapse as well- the nose gear is as it came from Tommy-no extra moldings are added. what do you plan to use for a elevator servo? i was going to use a Hi-tec 7955tg at 6volts(333 oz) but now i upgraded to a 7950 at 6volts (over 400oz) also im using a Powerbox- are you going unregulated or a powerbox type system- Tommy does not say how many oz of tourqe to use on the elevator......i should have it in the air in October........ Also what are you doing about the down thrust in the enginge mount?

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
Hey Sal,
So the weight of the engine is pushing the nose gear spring down that far? Humm.
Also, there are two different front wheel pant types. The first one in the pic below has the square piece on the top (like yours) and the one in the second pic with no square piece on top (like mine).
I don't know if that piece is molded into the pant or a separate piece attached later. If it attaches then maybe I can get one from Tommy and put it on. (or just get the other pant and change the whole thing. or just leave it alone)
As I mentioned in an earlier post, it appears there have been changes in various parts along the way. Probably different vendors, design changes, mold changes, etc. etc. through the years.
I think I'm going to use Futaba 9156 servos (340oz @ 6v) on the control surfaces. It does say that you only need 250oz servos on this plane,it isn't a 3D plane so there isn't that much load demand on the servos.
I'm probably going to use a SmartFly system on mine like my 50% Edge or maybe just their voltage regulator with dual li-ion batterys for redundancy. I probably don't need a power expander / equalizer since there aren't that many servos on this plane. (my Edge has 16. lol)
On the engine mount, I will probably have to fabricate my own or modify the one that came withthe planefor the engine I plan on using.

Hi Spidernad.
Nice looking plane with the blue and white standing on its end,
looks very familliar for some reason.
I modified my second engine mount from Tommy and had to
space it out with an alloy plate to give me clearance on the cowl
Apart from re making the mount from scratch there was not a lot
you can do to use the mount supplied.
The flaring on top of my front strutt is removeable
there has definately been some changes since i bought my plane too.
I have stalled on the finish of my Cessna as work is ruleing my
life and dont have much time'.
Hope fully over our summer i will have it in the air.
Regards.
Martin.

Hi Dan;
Thanks for the comments on the 185 build, so far so good, as you have mentioned Tommy adjusts or adds mods to his models.
As mentioned, I do like the dual flap horn he now uses. I have a single using a ball and socket connector to the pushrod.
The 185 and 182 wing are the same, I also have 30 degree flap extension. You will find 30 degree flaps sufficient for the model.
Look forward to seeing your 182 build.
Regards
Randy

Your right, that is your baby in the picture, good eye.
I asked Tommy if he could send me that piece for the wheel pant. It looks like it's actually two pieces that wrap around the strut and then attach or glue to the wheel pant, is that right?
Work does get in the way of the hobby but unfortunately is a necessary evil in order to survive. I have the same issue. Wish I could hit the lotto or something so I could retire! lol
Hope you get her finished up soon.
Cheers,
Dan

Hi Dan.
Yes the wheel pant cover comes in two halves and is glued or screwed on
to finish off the front strut cleanly.
The weather is slowly starting to improve here which also means more reason to finish
this plane and go flying.
Hope all goes well with your build.
Regards.

That's what I did with my 50% Edge.
The waiver is just to cover you for insurance if you crash into someone. You can still fly.
But seriously, the best thing to do is get the waiver. Just look on the AMA website and they list the people who can do that in your area.
Here is the link. You need to sign in.http://www.modelaircraft.org/MembersOnly/pdf/520-B.pdf
Here is the forms. http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/520-a.pdf
By the way, the plane looks great.

Hi Style,
That sounds about right my Cessna was just under 32Kgs here but I had her Certified (waivered as you may refer to it) for 33Kgs.
Your Cessna is looking great! Well done on getting her finished.
Look forward to seeing the flying photos.
Also good to see Spidernad posting some informative photos and details on the flap hinging. I was unaware that Tommy had even changed these as I am stuck with the ones Tommy was using at the time. These would be the second generation hinge he was using. So what is he up to now, third or fourth?
Regards,
Steve

How did you hold your pilots in. I was thinking of making a velcro seat belt.
I got a couple pilotsfrom Patti and company, one witha "Steve" head painted with brown hair and goatee to look more like me. lol (your famous now)

Hi Dan,
That's awesome about the mini Steve, Patti did mention to me over email that she was making one for a fellow Tommy C182 owner. hehe I do think you will be very pleased with the end result. Quite astonishing when you see them up close.
Yes I did exactly what your thinking and made some waist harnesses from black elastic and stitched velcro into it. That way the tension can be adjusted to restrain the pilots to the seat without crushing the seats as they are quite delicate being hollow fiberglass.
Looking forward to seeing some photos of your pilots.
Regards,
Steve

Wow, that looks great. Your making me drool. Can't wait to get mine done.
Just ordered the servos and some electronic stuff, has any one tried these Power HD servos? Key specs at 7.4 V: 0.118 sec/60°, 430 oz-in (31 kg-cm), 80 g. Pretty impressive specs. I Usually go with Futaba 9156 but couldn'tscrape up thebig bucks this time. I've heard some good stuff on these so am giving them a try
Got a lot of servos for less and they have more power than I even need.
