I've learned that the Castle event came together in the past few weeks.
There was a giant scale fly-in scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend at Madera and the
CD, Rick Mieda and his club were able to change locations to Castle.
I think it may not be a IMAA sanctioned event but what the hey...

This is important ! Is it District X's yearly IMAA event , or isn't it ?
The IMAA has always used Castle over the Memorial Day week end.
Did another organization highjack their field ? ? ?

I just spoke with Ken Safer in Ca. who is friends with Rick Mieda, he tells me the Castle event will be just like the last one 4 years ago,
a sanctioned IMAA event.
The event was never high-jacked, it was lost 3 years ago to to a cargo carrier that was scheduled to take over that end of the airbase
but that company went bankrupt even before the first cargo plane landed.

I wonder how the turnout will be. The event lost quite a few people when it moved to chowchilla, however I enjoyed it there as well. I am sure that there will be a huge showing for this event.

Chowchilla had a good turn out the first year and more the second, none of which equalled Castle's previous attendances. Fresno picked it up last year and attendance (I believe was around 50 registered pilots) was slightly less than Chowchilla's first year. Some fellows thought Fresno's was too small so chose to spectate but then kicked themselves in the arse once they saw how the club rearranged the field to allow more overnight camping and pit space. Could easily handle another 20 entrants.
70-80 registered pilots is not on the low side for California events. Most are lucky to get 25-30. Unlike eastern and midwest R/C'ers who will travel a thousand miles to attend and event, Californians rarely will go 200. We in California are spoiled by having zillions of things to do within a 150 mile radius of home.

I will be there. Castle is an event all its own.. A friends son did a report on castle one year for school. There were 800 RV's there that year. BTW dick, do you do stencils, I need to get them for this: http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/52/3/4/7_b1 . There is a plastic model that has the decals for this plane.
