Default Son of Shrike

I'm looking to convert my 1/2a Son of Shrike to brushless direct drive. I'm thinking of a Phoenix 25 with a Thunder Power 2100 3s and a Himax 2015-4100, and probably a 5x4 prop. If anyone has a similar setup I would like to know what worked for you.

Thanks in advance!

Not knowing what to expect from a direct drive, I punched it into P-Calc at www.flydma.com. I'm afraid you'll have a meltdown

P-Calc claims over 24 Amps. I don't think the motor will take it.

Alternatives would be less battery (2S instead of 3S), a cooler motor (2015-3600 or 2015-2800), or a smaller prop (do they make anything smaller than a 5" in a prop that would take 41000+ RPM?)

I think you are right Matt. I think I'll try an Astro 020 like the one I have in my Zagi. That is a solid motor and should be a good choice for the little shrike.

The Astro 020 is a much "cooler" motor, with a lower Kv, so it won't try to spin the prop as fast, and won't suck nearly as much juice.
