SAITO Model Numbers "A" "B"
I see that "B" is current production. Anyone got the breakout on when Saito made model changes on the engine lineup (and what changed) ? I believe the advent of Saito's gasoline models have also stimulated change on a few of the nitro models. Particularly interested in the midsized 100, 82, and 72...however, if you have the entire line please post THANKS!

RE: SAITO Model Numbers
Note difference in the cam covers, the old case had the cam in the cam cover, the new case has the cam in a box with the cover over it. The first B .82 had a new aluminum back plate but old cam arrengement. Picture #1 is new AB case, #2 even though a control line engine has the old style case. The 1.00 has always been in the new case. It looks like the .56, .62 and 1.50 are all that's left in the old cases. Here are the 1.00, 1.15, 1.25 and 2.20 new case and 1.50 old case.

Hobbsy...Thanks...noted...all 1.00s are the same. On the ..72 and .82 do you know when Saito went to the smaller case? Did that coincide with the cam cover arrangement change and what else did they do (change carbs, bolt size, ect.) How interchangeable would an "A" version be with a "B" version?

Sorry, I didn't know the .82 was in the new case until I saw your post. I did some digging at Horizon. Carbs and bolts most likely are same as are mounting specs.

The changeover occurred between late 2009 and fall of 2010. The difference is in teh case design, but as Hobbsy noted the mounting patterns, carbs, bolts, etc. all remain the same.

RE: SAITO Model Numbers
It looks like the cam housing is the most noticeable change in the case. I see the new case on the .72, .82, and 125. Are you saying that you can take a new case and transfer all of the components off of an old case engine to make a new engine? That would be pretty neat.

72 and 82 case design change corresponds with the introduction of the FG14 gas engine. The only difference is the crankcase design and the aluminum backplate.
If changing a 72 or 82 "A" to a "B" you will need
The crankcase
Backplate
backplate gasket
cam cover
Cam pivot shaft
Screws that retain the carb to the back plate
All the other parts are the same.
The "B" model weighs more than the "A" model
The Aluminum back plate can be fitted to the "A" model if you purchase the gasket and carb screw set along with it.
There have been other, on going, changes over the years as to the design of the muffler from the machined cigar to three different versions of the cast muffler.
The exhaust header pipe has changed from "30 degree", to straight, to "15 degree" over the years

RE: SAITO Model Numbers
In the Saito 125 "A" and "B" models, the change corresponds with the introduction of the FG20 gas engine
The difference in the the Saito 125 "A" & "B" is the cylinder only. The Saito 125 "B" has the fin design on the cylinder the same as on a FG20. However the machining is different on the two cylinders. The deck height is lower on the FG20 and the intake manifold is smaller on the FG20.
