Yeah, put it on a test stand first. That's what I do with all my engines. If I don't like it on the test stand I get rid of it. If I do like it on the test stand, it is almost always good in a plane, and then I can do an installation with confidence that it will work in the air.
It's nice to have a beater with the engine hanging out in the breeze, a kind of flying test stand that you can try out motors on.

I do that a lot, I have done like up to 6 engine swaps on planes maybe up to 7, its hard to remember. I like to test engines just to see what they run like, I have flown the same plane on as small as a 36 up to a 60 .

ya I really need to build one just for that jeff. stick type plane is usually a good candidate and easy enough to build from scratch. problem isn't ability its time. still young and working .so I'm real lucky to get a couple hours a week to play with my toys.good advice thanks. just don't want the little turd blowing apart at 11,000rpm or some crazy stuff like that.on second thought that would be kinda cool to see. I wander, if a rod broke or came apart somehow at that kind of rpm, would the case be able to contain it? lets hear your stories fella's .anybody ever had one of these engine come apart at high rpm???names Robert by the way, dubbed the rcjunky cause I've never met a plane that I could leave in the trash can at the club field.for all the wounded warriors I have in my garage, my wife say's it's a good nickname for me too. I don't care, if I think that it has any chance at all, then it's coming back to my laboratory to see if I cant bring it back.
it's a calling really, just cant let it be

I know the feeling. My name ought to be "EL CHEAPO" or something. When someone crashes a plane at the field, and takes all the electronics out and stuffs it in the can, I'll take it out and strip the rest of the parts out. Like T-nuts, push rods, and screws and such. I don't usually try to fix them as I already have too many projects going at any given time.

Steve, I have three of those engines, two new and the other has been on a cesna 310 then I got it and put it on a seagull decathalon 46.Man I miss that plane. but that one with a fresh set of bearings , an OS F plug 11x7 apc prop running on omega coolpower 15%nitro/ 20%castor oil. 300 rich T TOP END SHE'LL SPIN 13,200 ALL DAY LONG. I've seen other post on rcu where guys were running 10x8 props and getting even more. I've also read that 16,000 is possible with enough nitro content.Personally I'm not trying to wear out any of my engines anytime soon

Robert, I'm with jeffie, go for it! As long as you've got enough oil in the fuel it should be good to go. I'd just run her a bit rich for awhile and see how she does. As far as engines re-kitting themselves, I've had several C/L engines do just that over the years - some with broke pins on the flywheel, some with broke piston rods, one with broke crankshaft, right behind the prop. That was an interesting one - engine went to some kind of WARP drive and froze solid about 2 seconds later. The broken pins required new crankshafts, most of the broke piston rods simply got replaced and the ALL those engines are still running today. These are ALL Fox iron engines.

Thank You Skylark, its a Pheonix Models ARF I picked up from a novice that lost all interest in the hobby and never flew it. I had been searching for just the right airframe for my OS70, like 5 years now, and along came the Sukhoi.
As an aside, I believe SIG is going to market Pheonix Models ARFs in the near future.

When I got my 1st one , I wanted to do everything by the book. Since then I've stopped worrying and started letting my curiosity guide me. And ,of course , I've learned a lot reading these forum's. Tell me, how's the midrange or cruise rpm. always had an issue with mine.
Side note , it's a good damn thing I don't type for a living. seems like everytime I look at the screen, something has a red line under it.gees...
Anyway, to me basicly the 55 is a stroker 46... glad to get mid ten's with a 12x6 prop, but was kinda shocked that I could only get mid to high 13's out of it on 15%nitro with a 11x6 apc prop. I've read , as mentioned previously, that they'll get on up into the 16's with a 10 inch prop. and that mid 14's are the little motors sweet spot. What kind of plane you gonna run it on Steve?

also , as mentioned earlier, I've got 2 brand new 55's that I'd like to set up on a slick twin airframe. With 10x8,or 10x10 props. You know , just to see what I can get out of it. any idea's for a really slick twin out there fellas? I'd like to keep the wing span between 40 and 50 inches .

A Seagull Models Turbo Raven. I bought it purely cuz it looked cool. I didn't realize it would be such a PITA to balance. seagull claims to balance it at 5 5/8 from the LE. Well, that dog ain't gonna hunt. So I fixed it and read the reviews. Wow. Some people are flying it at as far forward as 4.25 inches. Big jump from 5 5/8. So I settled at 5 and see what happens. It's because of the swept wings and extremely long nose. Even as stupidly tail heavy as it was, it wanted to nose over taxiing. Well see. It's ready to try again.

I guess I'll always be flying some glo, I mostly fly gas, but glo engines always have a place, like in my C-47 with 2 OS .91FS pumpers. I also fly some electrics and have no problems with others that do, but if I hear one more guy come up to me and tell me " your airplanes are too noisy why don't you go electric" he won't go home happy!!! you want to fly solely electric? fine, don't be breaking my shoes over my gas or glo aircraft.

And just the other day one of those electric guys was sitting at the flight line with magic smoke pouring from his speed control. I resisted the urge to make up some witty comment about how my engines smoke all the time, or if it was a glow engine smoking wouldn't hurt it at all etc etc.

As an early apprentice , it was explained to me long ago. 'All electronics run on smoke... if you let the smoke out, they'll never work again'.words of wisdom. I've had some electrics too, but they just can't compare. It's been my experience that on any given airframe,to get the same performance pound for pound, it takes a lot of $$$ to get the same performance from electrics. And given the previously mentioned rule, I'd rather not get one chance for murphy's law to take effect. At least with glow or gas, you can repair whatever might go wrong a lot cheaper. With electronics, letting the smoke out of just one component usually effects the rest of the power system.

My Feedback: (1)
This year I will be lucky to get three gallon ran through my planes, the most I ever did was 19 gallons in one year, I throw the caps in a coffee can and count them at the end of the year. This job does not give me much time to fly. Use to work nights and fly all day, was tired but happy. Is anyone enjoying the OS 75 AX as much as I? That engine sure makes a sixty sized airplane get up and dance, have five of them now!
