Default Saito FA-100 Need some tips

I just got a Top Flite P-40 60 size with a Saito Fa-100 with side exhaust.
This is my first 4 stroke glow engine. My other plane is a 2 stoke glow motor and DLE-20 gas motor.

I replace the glow plug with a new one. I can get the motor to start but she wont go past 20% throttle. She will die when removing the
glow plug igniter.
I messed with the high and low end needle but nothing.

Fuel is 15%

Here a video of the motor running.

My first question is, what is leaking fuel / oil all over the side of the cowling ? Never seen anything like that on my Saito's or for that matter, any of my four strokes.

The plug is the correct one if it is a Type F, the oil is coming from a to rich condition that will also cause the engine to die when the heat from the plug is removed. As to weather this is an adjustment or a fuel issue is yet to be determined. Is your fuel fresh? Close the HPN and count the turns, also if this is a new engine the bottom end will be way rich from factory.

I dont know much about the plane and motor. I was told that the guy built the plane from a kit and never fly it. It been sitting for years.

The motor does not look new.

The fuel is about 2 weeks old. I used it on my other plane.

When I get come I'll close the HPN.

Saitos come out of the box with the low-end needle very rich. So rich, in fact, that they often will not run without the glow ignitor attached. This is done on purpose so that the engine will not be broken in lean. I would follow the standard Saito breakin procedure and see how it goes.

I lean the motor out last night and she run much better.
I remove the glow ignitor and got to go WOT.

Here a short video. She ran out of fuel.

If the LS needle is too rich, the glow plug brand won't matter. The over rich mixture will cool the plug and the engine will quit. Set HS needle at full peak and leave it there, then procede to lean the LS needle 1/8th turn at a time. As the idle improves keep chasing the throttle to lower and lower settings. It best to do this on a test stand so you don't shake your plane to death..

What size is the prop, it sounds too small? Thanks

I have alot of 14x7 and 14x8.

I have a quick question not for the engine.

I have a spektrum AR6115e Microlite Receiver. Can I use this on my 60 size plane? or Should I get a receiver with a remote receiver? Like DSM2 AR6200 6-Channel Receiver Ultralite.

Stome, if you take the radio question to the transmitter/ receiver forum you'll get a whole lot of responses, The 15c6 is a great choice, I have a 1.00 that I just put new bearings in and have a 15x6 and 14x7 ZOAR prop to ry. Maybe today.

Anytime you have an oily exhaust flowing up hill the oil is going to collect in the low places at low throttle and then blow out all at once when the throttle is opened. That appears to be the case here.

hobbsy but the amount oil will not change just when it comes out.
On the DLE 20 a 15x10 would be a great prop for that if you like speed. if want more speed then a 14x13N would be the ticket. If scale type flying then a 17x8.

Not unless the engine can manufacture oil.

yes if your engine is making more oil, which when an engine does its dark black, isnt a good thing.

It's a shame you became discouraged. The Saito 100 is a sweet engine.

I dont like how the nitro leaves a mess after flying. Plus my other two planes are gas.
