Saito .56 Break in
Just wanted to make sure I am on the right track. I have a Saito .56 swining a 12x6 prop. I put two tanks through the engine at a rich setting at 4000 rpm. Transitioned to full throttle and started leaning out the mixture and the engine peaked around 10,500 -11,000 rpm. Backed it down to 10,000 and finished the tank. Does this sound about right? Planning to run the rest of the gallon through at these settings, leaning it out occasionally to see if it peaks higher and then backing off 500 or so rpm.

You could fly it now if the low speed has been leaned for a decent idle. You only needed to run it 10 minutes at 4,000 rpm. And then varying speeds for about 30 more minutes.

I have about 70 minutes on mine on the test stand. It vibrates somewhat, but has smoothed out some. Fuel consumption went way down after several tanks. I haven't gone full throttle for longer than maybe 30 seconds before idling it some. I haven't tached WOT or idle either, but did tach it for under 4000 rpm the first tank. I should probably run it one more time to adjust the high speed setting before taking the plane to the field. I leaned it a few clicks but it still is set for very rich.
Any more suggestions?

Hey!
I tried a couple of numbers in the phone book to reach you, but not the right ones. Give me a call. Yep, heard that I missed you when I didn't go out Sunday. Was out there Sat and flew the Fantasy with the new Evo .46 NT. I'm planning on flying Fri afternoon and Sat. Heard I missed a crash from you-know-who trying to fly using only the trims. LL had his 1985ish OS blow the bottom half of the crankcase off on his Spacewalker. I think it is a .90 4 stroke.
I hope to have the Kavalier and Saito flying by the middle of next week.

RE: Saito .56 Break in
Dont mean to butt in here but i just got the 72 running yesterday on a cadet senior its my fun plane, usually fly the bigger stuff but i ran the first gallon on 15% wildcat 20% oil blended and today i tried some of my YS Heli mix 20% oil sythetic with 30% nitro and what a improvement . I switched from a 13/6 master airscrew to a 14/6 and got 8800 rpms static on the heli mix . I checked the head temps out and it seemed to be fine on the higher nitro, i had to richen up the high end about one turn more out but i like the extra performance. Also switched to YS plug same as the F plug. My low end to was very rich on iniatial run .
