Nah - she'll be right mate.
You're a bit of an engine Guru.
Fill that slug up with a decent bellyful of castor oil and give her a decent send-off.
It may clunk and thump, but until it totally flies to pieces, I'm sure you'll keep firing it up.
Long live the ASP/Magnum

Well guys, the day has come for the decommissioning of my radial. Currently I am stripping the model down so as to make space in the hangar for my sea fury and other projects. The engine is going to be bundled up with oil and I will bring it out to play every now and then on the test stand. One day I may have a go at fixing it and addressing its many issues! I have no doubt however that it will fly again at some point. My Jayracer 85 is more than able to take it and was in fact its first home. But until then it will remain in hibernation

I posted this over on the ESM Corsair thread, but haven't gotten any answers yet.
So I'll ask here, if that's ok - it's off-topic re the ASP 400 - but I have the chance to buy a Saito FA180 at a really good price... and it would suit my CPM Me109 to a T - being the top end size of the 4-strokers they quote on their site.
I don't want to hijack the thread, so to keep it free from non-ASP chit chat, any advice PM'd to me would be much appreciated, since you guys have played with a lot of motors other than the ASP 400 in the past.
All comments welcome.
TIA

its a little overkill, you might tear the wings off the 109. They also drink fuel (cue telemaster...), vibrate a lot, the exhausts fall off and they are very aggressive engines as well as being physically very big. but, they are powerful for sure. if its the 73inch 109 then a decent 120-150 would be more than enough. its a warbird not a missile

For vibration, just use rubber well nuts in lieu of "T" nuts to secure the engine mount to the firewall. They can be tightened down for the desired (slight) amount of flex desired, then locked down W/nyloc nuts from the back.

Anyway, the saito 150 is not exactly small either. I had one and still have a 180, they are very sizable lumps! also personally I don't like those vibration reducing mounts as the engine flops all over the place. but, to each his own I guess

They can be tightened down to totally eliminate the flex if desired. Unusually tighten them down until I can grasp the engine & barely make the engine/mount move by twisting. Even the slightest elasticity helps tremendously & there is no danger of the elastomer breaking as it is sandwiched between the brass nut & the engine mount.

Doesn't need to be flown as a 'missile', Caro.
Might even mean I can run a 3-spoker prop on it too - with plenty to spare.
Never such a thing as 'too much power' LoL
But seriously, the AUW and size diff between a Saito 120, 150 & 180 4-banger is bugger all.
Should at least sound good. And have heaps of grunt in reserve...

Tighten them down for the desired amount if allowable movement, then put nyloc nuts on the back to lock them down.
You should seriously consider CDI for the FA-180 as it is a bit thirsty on GI.

it works for me
Get some METRIC WELL NUTS. They are dirt cheap. Use them in place of the "T" nuts commonly used in the firewall. (well nuts are sometimes called rubber "T" nuts)

Hmmm... strange.
I can see the link if I Google 'Desmoparts', but I can't get to their website - via IE, Google Chrome or FireFox Mozilla.
Must be one of those 'International' things, where it won't let a good Ozzie boy like me into the site (??)
