Does anyone have a Citabria? I bought one last year that I'm thinking of restoring over the winter months. She was in pretty bad shape. Would like to see what people have.

My dad built a Sterling models wizard back in about 1974 and never got around to finishing it,he had the wings built and covered and the fuse built but not covered,im now going to finish the plane and just covered the fuse yesterday. Its wing span is 54" and its a bi-plane with 4 channels.Made for a ancient and heavy radio system my dad planned on using a 7 channel Kraft and even thats too old so ill be putting a Futaba system in it.Plans say its made for a .25-.45 engine and im putting a K&B .40 in it,its heavy but its got a lot of wing on it.ive got pictures of the plane and orginal plans which are in pretty bad shape. If anybody has seen this plane before or knows how it flys please let me know.Should have it RTF in a few weeks Enjoy!

Congratulations on the idea of flying the model. I've been building my Stinson for 3 years now. It's going up this coming year and if it doesn't fly it's not meant to be. My motto is: why build it if you're not going to fly it!!!!!!!!! Flying the planes you build the only true test of your mettle. Good choice and good luck.

Guys,

Based on my experience with the Sterling Stinson, be sure to build in 2 - 3 degrees washout in those wingtips.

Gee, this is either like an AA meeting or a reunion of abused children.

My very first RC kit was the mini Fledgling. I had no idea that Sterlings were considered tuff to build. All I had ever built were Gillows gliders and rubber band planes. Sterling was a step up !!!

But I will never forget when I saw the Tripacer, 1980 maybe. It looked huge to me. Remember, I am flying a Fledgling.

I have 2 tripacers, 58"ers (wasn't there a small one) and the Reliant ( which is so new it has plastic wrap on it).
All in thier boxes. One tripacer has the metal nose.

I actually open one of the Tripacers up about 3 weeks ago and considered starting it. After aabout 24 hours consideration, I folded the plans and tucked it all away until later. Got a Sig Banan(z)a going instead.

Laser cut , CAD marvels and WE are building Sterlings. IF they told you that 25 years ago.....

Hi:

Want to post a couple of pictures of the Sterling Kit, built in 64..First attempt at scale...It's # FS-10 kit, F-51..Yep,thats what the box cover says..Looks more like a P-51 H..anyway do have the kit again and plans (Plans are almost kaput)..As soon as I get a foam wing cut for it,will finish it up and fly it again next spring...Will install retracts this time..

Had a Supertigre 56,I beleive, flaps and bomb drop (2)...Sig dope finish..Nice flying plane...Used a F&M matador radio and servos....Never did crash it...was apart and ready to put into the auto, and some idiot (Fellow club member), backed up over the wing and totaled it....He never did reinburse me for his mistake...He later drop out of the club, because every time I seen him,I asked him about....

Anyway here are a few pics of it..enjoy

Nice Mustang, Jimmy. We had a couple of them flown in the late 60's with Kraft proportionals and ST .56's. They flew fast and had a glide ratio that was less than a brick. I have one I'm restoring to fly and one in the box. I'm installing a Kraft Series 80 radio but have changed my mind about power and will install an ST .56.

Great looking aircraft Jimmy. Reports I get from the old kermudgeons here in KC are that all Sterling kits flew like dogs. I find that hard to believe and always say so. Nice to hear your report and proof in the fact that it is still flying after all these years!

I bought an old kit with a set of plans and parts with a nearly complete fuselage (an understatement) and the plans are so destroyed as to be unusable. If anyone has a clean set which is still white and doesn't have parts from hundreds of bug bites, please PM me so I can get a set to build this kit. Looks like all of the balsa and carved nose and turtle deck, and scoop blocks are all here and the canopy is in decent condition.

Thanks

Tom

Tom:

Never did fly it again after the wing got totaled by some idiot backing over it, with a car.....Flew the plane on reeds then..The eqt. we have now, would make it a better flying plane..Are you talking about the plans for the F-51?? Like I said,am going up to kinko's next week and have the plans reproduced....Let me know so I can have a set of extra plans made...E-mail me at: [email protected] RE; 'F-51 Plans' so I won't delete it...Have a nice one..........

Gllarrabee,

If you still have that sterling p-63 kit with the two sets of plans I could surely use a set of plans. I recently bought the kit at auction and it was supposed to be complete. It was except NO plans. If you could have KINKOS make a copy of your set of plans I would surely pay you for them.

Hey Folks, just scanned this thread. Saw a couple references to the old Lancer. I had a couple of the 40 size. Fast as hell with a good K&B 40 Torpedo. It still have one of the die crunch kits for the Lancer 40. I am building a verson of it this winter with a foam wing and maybe retracts. One of my favorites was the Lancer SL62. I had one I flew for almost 20 years till I confused which way was up on a low inverted pass. Does any one have a plan I can get a copy of.?I will swap a copy of the 40 size.

Bumped into this thread googling sterling to get the windscreen for the Piper Cherokee (Kit E14). going to make it
electric as I did the Stinson SR-8. Guess I'm gonna have to fake the Wind shield some how. Looking over the clear
bottles in the grocery stores. Have had a !QUOT!wanted!QUOT! request on ebay several times for the Piper Tri-Pacer. The smaller
of the kits for small electric project. Still have my fingers crossed and renew the wanted page now and then to see
if something pops up. It took two years to get the Sterling SR8, they were going for over $125 to $150. I paid $75
for mine and felt lucky. Cherokee fuse is done, on to the wing.............................................. .

Our forum poster from Sacramento has one of the Sterling smaller sized Piper Tri-Pacers.
I have been working up parts and new plans for the Berkeley model of same size, but of different construction. Both are able for power of the .09 to .15 size.

Anyone in the group ever build and/or fly one of the Sterling "Real Sporty" pylon racers? Would like to know how they fly. I have one under construction and I have enlarged the horiz and vert stabs about 25% with the idea of keeping the tail behind the nose a little better.

Flyboy Rich,

I may be able to asssist you with a copy of plans for the Lancer SL62. I'm doing some wheeling and dealing with a friend of mine. If you still need a copy of the plans?

Regards
