Default Antique RC engine

Hi, I own this vintage engine and know very little about it. It does turn over, compression feels good and no scraping or grinding bearings. I have been told that it is a D&S .29 from 1939 made in Lima,Ohio by Joe Delong and Bob Steele. Bottom front rotary intake valve, sand cast engine. Does anybody have any additional information regarding this engine? Any help would be appreciated.

Looks D&S to me . Should have name stamped on rear of engine . The 1940 version had a side intake . Looks like yours if missing the timer assy or I can't see it in the pictures. Max H.

Thanks Max. Is the timer assembly the copper or brass ring with what looks like a wire clamp and maybe a magnet mounted behind the prop as shown in this pic? Fyi this engine is available for a fair price, if any interest PM me.

I don't think there were alot of after market parts made for this. I have been told that originals and prototypes may not have markings.

I know this is rare and cool for the right person. I don't need it and am willing to get rid of it for someone who collects stuff like this. I have 2 lowball offers and would rather mount it to the wall of my workshop, as a cool decoration than give it away. PM if interested and serious.

Should be a set of points & some kind of a cam on the crank or thrust washer that opens & closes the points when the prop is turned over . Also a arm on the timer to advance & retard the timing.Looks like you are missing some parts. Kind of a rare engine but condition is everything & will reallly drop the collector value due to any missing or broken parts . Good luck, Max H.

Thanks Max. I think I may just keep it as a cool wall art thing. Compression is good and baerings feel smooth, who knows, maybe some day I will figure out how to fire it up.

I'd be really careful about running old ignition engines on glow fuel. A lot of them disappeared in 48 simply because their engines couldn't take the increased pressures and grenaded themselves in all sorts of nasty ways.
