So I did five coats. Three light, one kind of heavy, and a wet coat, and it doesn't look any different. I'll leave it the way it is, it doesn't look bad. Pretty dang orange though. I'll see it no problem, except I won't have much for orientation being all orange with no other real colors. I won't see the silver past taxiing out. I can't wait to see it with the decals and trim painted.

I haven't a clue, as to what is going on, Steve. You paint job looks fantastic, but the orange doesn't seem to have any "hide" in it.

White may help, but you're past that stage, now. If it were me, I'd just keep going, as the model looks pretty darn good, the way it is.

My thoughts exactly. Its laying down nice. I'm thinking that since the stitches aren't very proud, it kind of makes up for it. Now you can see it. Or, maybe I try the white on top of wings and fuse and recover tail and just leave the bottom of the wings as is. Well see.

Looks good let 'er ride Steve

We got completely moved in. Still trying to get a spot ready for building activities. Hotter the heck out there in the garage though.
Picked up (wife did) a new addition to the family. A 11 month old Shih Tzu. Now the dog and cats have to learn to deal with each other. I figure give them 2 weeks and they should be buddies. Another couple gave us the dog.

Thanks guys, for all the encouragement, and inputs. It's not that I'm not happy with it, I just saw it a little different in my head and it came out a little different. Still good, just not exactly what I shot for. I'm shooting the tops of the wings now so pics to come.

The wings came out good. I'm happy with them, with the exception of a little touch up on one of the ailerons. A drop of something spilled on it a while back and I forgot to clean it. In the mist of things I had a bit of paint left in the gun and just grabbed a part and hit it. Oops. I don't think it's a big deal though. I rubbed it with a cotton rag and the paint, and the spot came right off. I should be able to blend it right in and never see it.

Thanks ken. I'm happy with it. A vast improvement over the red 21st century fabric that went on it the first time. I'm happy to be finally getting this one done. Also, can't wait to start the next one.

The wing looks great, and the stitches and tapes show up well.

You should be pleased.

No we aren't. We just try stuff. If it works, we do it again. If it doesn't , we don't tell anybody.

Try some of this stuff yourself. It adds a lot to the model, and it isn't all that hard.

Just because it didn't come out exactly like I pictured it, doesn't at all mean I failed. I still have a nice finish, but I learned from it. Next time I'll improve on it and maybe then it will be exactly like I hope. Toms right, it's not hard, just have to try it. This is my first time doing anything other than just covering and calling it a day. It's fun. I enjoy trying to replicate something and making it look half way descent. Good stuff.

Thanks Mike. I figure while I'm waiting for paint to dry, I'll start prepping the glass parts that came with the kit. All I have to say is, man, I wish all kits came with such high quality fiberglass parts. They hardly require any filling or sanding. WAY better that what you get from fiberglass specialties. And there stuff is pretty nice in my opinion. I'm hoping to get the fuse painted today but I have lots to do, so well see.

Well boys, it's official. We've got an orange airplane. A VERY orange airplane! I'm psyched! I'll wait until at least tomorow to start masking the trim just to be sure it's fully dried. It's very humid today which has me a little concerned? I'm sure it's fine though. All that's left to paint is the cowl and pants, and the struts. I may slap the decals on the wings as they have been dry for a few days now. Wahoo!

Boy I'm just dying to get the silver trim on. It's going to look sharp. Good progress was made today. I have a question though. Is it normal for some of the edges to come unstuck as the paint dries and stretches? Especially on the pinked edges. There going back down, I just hope they stay down. Thankfully with the fiberglass parts being as nice as they are, it won't take too long to prep them for paint. . I should be working on trim tomorrow if all goes well. Happy 4th to all!

bTW, as you can see in pic 3, the stitching is plenty visible. I like it.

The Speedster looks great Steve ! The markings look great, too.

What does Nelson's say about masking times ? I waited a full week, when I used their paint.

It'd be a shame to mask too early, and have the tape pull up some of the orange, when removing it.

I'm waiting for that email right now. In the mean time I'm prepping the cowl and pants for paint. I'm still debating how I should go about the black pinstripe that borders the silver. I'm not sure that I have a steady enough hand to do it with a paint brush. And I don't know that vinyl pinstriping will work. What's your thoughts tom?

I use automotive vinyl trim tape. After applying it, I take my trim iron, on low heat, and go over it. The heat seem to do a good job of setting the adhesive.

That's what I was hoping but wasn't sure if it would hold. Then again, I used it on ultra Kote years ago, and it still looks great. It held up better than wrinkle crap did. Thanks Tom, for giving me the answer I wanted! Lol.
