Andy, I received a message from Horizon re. my Spektrum AR8000. It is an older receiver and has an old remote. That receiver cannot bind given the scenario I was experiencing. They have sent me a new remote. Thanks for your advice. Larry

Strange, the AR8000 hasn't had any revisions other than the label. It has always been DSMX. I'll be interested to hear the aftermath.

Andy, Here is the verbage on Horizon's invoice. "DSMX Remote Receiver This is an older AR8000 and some of the older ones got a DSM2 label put on them. However the AR8000 is really a DSMX receiver and requires a DSMX remote to operate. So I am sending you a DSMX remote to use with this AR8000 receiver. Receiver tests good for signal stability, bind and range If you have any questions or need further assistance.............etc." Larry

OK. Sounds like you were using a DSM2 remote with it. What Larry said makes perfect sense; in fact it's the same thing I said in post #20.

Hi,
I have been setting up a model for a friend, a brand new AR8000 receiver, also a new Spectrum 9x Transmitter, as far as I know the Tx has not been updated, no SD card in it, I had problems getting it to Bind with the Rx,
I put the bind plug in the right port, I put a battery in one of the other ports, I also had a couple of servos plugged in, started the bind procedure, I kept getting a Bind Fail warning, read the instructions again, same problem, several times, I removed the servos then tried it again, it went straight through,
I then set up the model, when I was happy with the set up I went to bind it again, same Bind Fail problem, in the end I unhooked all the servos then it bound without a problem.
any suggestions, is there a distance the Tx should be away from the Rx,
I liked the new 9x Transmitter, so I have just picked one up for myself.

2m between tx and rx, and both should be away from metal things like cars or park benches, as well as the ground.

Got one for Andy. Have an AR8000 receiver and satellite receiver with new cable between the two. When I try to bind, both receiver and satellite lights start flashing. Hold down the bind button on my DX8 TX and turn it on. The bind message comes on the tx screen and the AR8000 binds and stops flashing. The remote continues to flash and will not bind. What do I need to do? Send the AR8000 and satellite in for service?

Are you sure you are using a DSMX Remote? Regardless of label all AR8000s are DSMX. If you are using the remote that came with it the case may also say DSM2. Look on the back of the Remote if it looks like a DSM2 and see the label inside. If there is an X as part of the label then it is DSMX. If there is no X it is a DSM2 Remote. The AR8000 needs a DSMX remote.
The early units that shipped with DX8 were labeled DSM2 before DSMX was announced. Its pretty easy to get the remotes mixed up and then try to use a DSM2 remote with it that wont work if you dont know this.

If you still cant get it to work then Yes it should go to HH Service. If you do send it make sure you send both Rxs and the cable you are having trouble with.

DSMX is molded into the remote case, not a sticker

Ok. Then it is definitely a DSMX remote. Sounds like you need to send them in for Service.

Have you tried taking a few steps back from the rx while binding?

Yep.......I have 8 other AR8000 receivers with remotes and all bind with ease in different airplanes. Even went outside my garage to try the bind process. No success. Finally, just sent to HH for service.

If you get to darned close, any Rxer's front-end can be overloaded with RF. I always step between the Txer and the Rxer when binding as well as being a couple feet away. Since I started doing that, I never have any problems binding. And, ... I am binding very frequently working with the kids and other students' equipment as well as my own.

Also, I have noticed that it pays to clean Remote Rxer connections (both ends) periodically. Just remember a little cleaner goes a long ways and keep it away from canopies and sensitive foams. A good symptom of a needed cleaning is a failure to connect until you wiggle the harness at the connector a tiny amount! Someday maybe someone will come up with a more solid but still lightweight connection.

Quick question for Andy. I have a 30cc Valiant, DX8 trans with an AR8000 receiver. The flaps are using a y-connector and the Aileron servos are using 2 channels. When I move the ailerons back and forth really fast, I get full down flaps for a few seconds. I have checked all the wiring and plugs and all seems to be ok. Any Ideas, or do you need more information?

Sounds like you need a better battery pack and/or switch harness.

That's exactly what happens when you lose power during operation.

OK....I am currently using a 1700 mah 6.6 volt LiFi battery going through a regulator set to 5.0v output to receiver. Can I just get rid of the voltage regulator? Another choice is I have a 4000 mah 2s 7.4 volt transmitter Lipo pack that I am not using. Could I use it?

If your servos will take 6.6V, yes, you can lose the regulator.

Specs say "4.8 - 6.0V" so I wouldn't.
