Default PCM

Hi. I am planning to get an XP7202 radio for Christmas. I was wondering if PCM mode can be turned off for sims and such. And PCM is the dial on the back where you select what channel you want, correct?

Default RE: PCM

PCM vs PPM (FM) is selectable in the TX programming. This is a function just like reversing a servo or changing and Travel adjustment or subtrim value.

As for the Frequency changing this has nothing to do with PCM or PPM(FM)

Yes the 7202 is capable of both SPCM and PPM modes. Its an easy to change user function. The radio remembers which models are PCM versus PPM so when changing models that are stored in the TX, the PPM or PCM settings stay with the respective model. Frequency has nothing to do with it. PCM and PPM all use the same frequencies.

but the description says that you dont need any new crystals so isnt that saying that you can switch channels with some kind of dial on the radio?

IF --- it also says synthesized, then yes.

Better yet go to the DX7 on 2.4GHz.

The 7202 is almost identical to the 2720 sold in the rest of the world.

It is a fully synthesised system where you have the option to change the channel from the front panel. The nice thing about this is that the model memories also remember the frequency you are on. So you could have all 20 model memories on different channels.

As Troy pointed out, the 7202 is capable of working in either PPM or PCM mode which again is remembered in the model memory.

The synthesised systems that have the dials on the rear are the plug in module TS72. This will work with any of the modular radios, such as the 347/388/8103/ 9303 and the 10 series.

I don't own a 7202 but I think the frequency that you choose is done in the software of the Transmitter. You don't turn any dials at all. And it is a fully synth system so you don't use any crystals...There is nothing to change.

By the way there is no difference between PCM vs PPM (FM) crystals. They are the same crystals...So switching between PCM and PPM has everything to do with the Receiver and its capability. If it is a PCM RX then you go into the programming on the 7202 and change to PCM, and then select the frequency you need to be on to talk to the RX. This will depend on the crystal that is installed in the RX....

If you have the 720 (PPM) or 790 (PCM) receiver then the receiver is synthesized also, and you can be on any frequency you like. There are other JR synth RX's as well.

The fact that the 7202 is synth in the transmitter does not mean it has to run a synth RX. It can run any JR RX that is PPM, ZPCM, or SPCM. The Z style PCM is pretty old however some folks still have these RX's laying around. The Synthesized TX will work these crystal RX's just fine.

Same goes for a Synth RX and a TX with a crystal in it these will work fine together as well.

In your case I don't know what RX you are using...but the TX is synth so you have no need to buy crystals to change frequencies. Also the TX is capable of talking both PPM and PCM so you can run any JR PPM or PCM rx's. You need to only select the channel that the crystal on the RX reads. As for the Synth RX's just pick the frequency you want and Then program the RX to that frequency...on this radio there are no dials to change.

The information is on Page 43 of your manual for the 7202. If you don't have your manual go here.

Good Luck with it.
