I've been working on installing the servos and push rods. I opted to use couplers on all the push rods so I have adjustment on both ends. This also allows me to use ball links on the servos, I like the solid connection they provide. I'm not a big fan of the solder links that the kit provides, but it's really just a personal preference.

How would you rate the TF P-47 compared to the Yellow A/C or Meister??? I am looking forward to starting a build soon and am leaning toward the TF...

Thanks Jimbo, I have the Dubro heavy duty locking clevises on the other end. Been using them a long time and never had one fail or get sloppy, plus I scrounged up enough around the shop to do the job. That's always a bonus!
I would like to do a Meister Scale or go all overboard and build a Don Smith 1/4 scale someday (dreaming) The Yellow A/C is a tad too small for me personally, but I don't think you will be disappointed in the TF kit, and it is pretty complete right out of the box. I'm glad I chose to build both the small and the large TF Jugs, it's given me the skills I will need to not make a plans built warbird not so daunting.

Thanks for the info... There was a Yellow kit in the market... I am looking at a Ziroli one also but am leaning toward the topflite. I will most likely go with the TF. I want to play at scaling it out some so later on I can really do high detail scale project.

No problem Jeff, Keep us updated when you get started.
I've been playing with the air system this morning. I picked up a couple of these T's from Grainger thinking that they would look nice mounted in the fuse and make the connections look a little more tidy. My only concern was they might leak, but that isn't a concern anymore, they have been holding solid pressure for over three hours now and I've cycled the tail wheel a dozen times. I think I'm going to pick up a couple more to finish off the install.
I've been playing with the air system this morning. I've been installing the retracts in mine. I'm using the Robarts that are designed for this plane. It looks like I'm going to have to remove a lot of rib area for the leg to retract fully into the locked position. This is with a Dubro 5" treaded lite wheel. Is this normal or do you pivot the leg slightly to get the required clearance? Some of the photos on this thread show the wheels much deeper in the wing than I think mine are going to end up.

You will need to shave those two ribs down quite a bit so they don't interfere with the wheel. You may have to shim it a little too if that doesn't give you enough room, as Fabio said.
I also added stringers on the inside for scale effect, but also they really gave the sheeting some extra support.
If you try and pivot the strut too much to allow clearance, when you open the gear the wheel will have too much toe out, not a good thing either.[:@]
I finally found a happy medium where everything worked, gear extended with the wheels straight and the locks functioned easily. That is why I sheeted the bottom of the wing with the gear in the plane so I could lay up the gear doors to account for shimming the gear. Does that make sense?

The stock set up with a couple of balsa stringer running across F1 and F2 do not offer a good way to anchor the tank and make it removable at the same time.
How did you guys set yours up?
I am thinking of building a tray like in my top flite p51 that rest in a slot behind the firewall and attaches with two screws on F2 for easy removal for inspection and such.
Am I missing something on page 28 of the tank installation instruction?

I did mine stock Fabio. The piece of balsa you see along the tank side is not glued in yet as I still need to run a choke setup through that area. After I get that buttoned up, I will glue it in to keep any sideways movement from happening. I have the batteries under the tank (or on top depending on the way your looking at it) between the balsa tank rails and I used some heavy chipboard as the battery floor. Foam is jammed up in there to keep everything from rattling around. Worked out pretty good.
I spent the biggest part of yesterday hardening up all the holes with CA and applying Locktite to everything. I also got the elevators glued in, and the Gorilla Glue seems to be doing the job after I tugged on them pretty hard.
I'm thinking I will make another tray that will mount over the servo tray. I would like to mount the receiver to that tray and it will also keep any of the wing wiring and air-tubing from getting tangled up in the servos.

I finished up the choke servo and hooking up the linkage. Not a moment too soon either, as the shop is a wreck!
How come every time I do electronics stuff it looks like a bomb went of in the garage?
How many of you guys solder that little hole in the choke butterfly closed? I'm thinking of doing that, any problem with doing that? My DLE 30, next time I have the engine off the firewall I was going to do the same thing.

One question.
Doesn't it get labor intensive to spray a color, clean everything up then spray another color and so on?
I would love to use my spray gun equipment, but I always dreaded the clean up part.
Any tips that you guys can share to alleviate the pain?

I use the water base warbird colors or nelsons paint. Changing colors is pretty easy, flush it with water and spray it through the gun till its clean. Warbird colors has been having problems with his supplier but he's about to get it solved pretty soon.

After all the priming I have done Fabio, I only had to clean my gun once. After I spray, I pour a little lacquer thinner in my cup and spray it out into a rag, wipe the cup out, go over the gun, and I'm done. The thing that has been more bothersome than anything is wearing a breathing mask. I have one of those filtered masks so I'm not inhaling the fumes. It's an instant headache if I don't wear it, so I deal with it.
