RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Since everyone is probably still stuffing their face with food, at list I know I am, wish everyone a happy turkey holiday.
By the way, one question.
I finally put the wing on the fuse and drilled the mounting holes.
Now I need to sight in the wing to the stab.
Looks like I need to shim one side and sand a little to the other.
Did you guys had the same issue when you mounted the wing in respect to the stab?

Not that I recall. I believe it was really close, and didn't need any adjustment, but I wouldn't say that some minor adjustment wouldn't be out of the question/

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Hope everyone had a great Holiday.
I work with my brother in-laws that week setting up a big show, while all the sisters and in-laws visit. It's not all work, so it's a pretty fun trip.. Always good to see the family and eat some good food...
Buttttttttt now it's shop time.. I made a pretty big mistake gluing on the LE of the flaps before I went out of town, pics to follow.... It's not a hard fix, just a stupid mistake... This will be a good week to work on the 47, plan on getting a bunch done... How y'all coming on yours, any progress?
Jimbo

Welcome back Jimbo....
I think by far for me making the wing fillets was the most frustrating experience of the build so far.....it even passed the flaps in the aggravation scale.
Found the source of my gap problem.
Earlier building the fuse, I glued one side of the wing saddle just a bit higher than the other.
Fast forward few weeks into the build and now I had to contend with a gap on one side of the fuse.
Anyway, I attached the darn wing fillets and I used Gorilla glue so the glue expanded inside the fuse into the fillet and squeezed out the sides a little for a complete fill.
Next on the work order will be filling the fillets with fast and final in a couple of layers.....
Funny how once you join the wing to the fuse, it really start to feel like a plane and no longer a huge pile of wood that needs to be assembled.

My buddy just did a ME 262 with twin 70mm, it's a foamie but really nice... He flew it last weekend and it honks pretty good, of course he didn't go with the one big 4 cell pack it calls for, but went with two 5cells.....

Cool
From what I'm reading, CMP planes fly well as long as you assemble everything the opposite of the instruction manual! [X(]

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Well I got some work done on the p47. Thanks to Ron's help I have the Sierra gear installed and have the two wing halves joined. I am going to do the wing mounting a little different from the plans, going to use carbon fiber rod instead of the dowels. Also going to back the plywood rings that glue to the fuse with G10. I know on my large gassers that the dowels that hold the hatch on start to get worn down from the vibration, so I hope using the CF and G10 that will not happen. My plan was to do "the bug" but have changed my mind and settled on "little demon". Already ordered the graphics so I don't change my mind again. Really want to run a 4 bladed prop, but the dle 55 will only spin a 19" 4b, I think that might look a bit small on the front. Still planing on having it ready for finishing by January, but that may not happen.

Careful, starting one before finishing one leads down the road hell. I have 4 on the work bench and promised myself I wouldnt start anymore until they are all finished. I walk in the shop, and just stand there staring. What am I gonna do today!

Swinging a four blade prop was in my plan, sorta why I went with a 80cc engine. But I will fly it with a 2 blade prop till I get quite a few flight. G-Pete flew a TF p-47 with a 4 blade and a 90cc engine, have video of it flying, looks very nice.

An issue with the P-47 is it comming out tail heavy and having to add nose weight. I have seen this plane carry over 30#'s with no problems. Just be mindfull of this and all will work out fine.
To all have a Wonderful Holiday season and may the lord Bless you family.
