Actually the engine is fairly quiet, at least compared to my 80cc! I only ran it quick enough in there to 'ballpark' the low needle for now.

Got a little progress done this weekend. Not a lot of visual progress, but I'll post a couple anyway. Pictures are some gussets for the fuselage, tow release, and inside of cockpit so far.

A little more progress again; starting to get the tail mounted and some cabin work done. I am thinking I am at the point there won't be much visual progress for you guys until I bolt on the major pieces. I talked to our sheet metal guy at work about getting some leading edge slats made to accommodate some features from the Mackey SQ2. YouTube it, you will like it!

Again, a little more progress, but not visually. Daughter is sick, so I only managed to get a few hours in today. Between my two projects on the go, I managed to get the fin on, installed a bunch of tri stock reinforcement in the nose and landing gear area, and started sheeting the nose. I can't fully sheet the nose until the engine is ready for final installation.

On a side note, I received my next project for next winter... a Genesis (now AMR) 33% Waco kit.

Sorry for the blurry picture, but received the new gear last night... I'm hoping to receive one more package this week that has the tank and fuel stuff, control horns, odds and ends, etc. This weekend should hopefully be productive.

It's the Robart gear for the Balsa USA 1/4 scale cub, P/N 690B. Robart sells it for 160, I got it from gohobbies.com for about 110 I think plus shipping.

This weekend I got the gear mounted, and also mounted the fuel tank in the floor. Other than that, I only started working on the elevators - getting the groove made for the dowel. Most my time this weekend was working on the tail on my main project, the twin otter. Next weekend I hope to have the tail pretty much completed for the cub, and maybe get closer to completing the wings finally!

I only managed to get a few minutes of work done this weekend. Everybody seems to be getting the flu lately, so RC time was cut back. Got her on feet finally, though! If I get time this week, I want to put 1 full tank through the engine, then start mounting it up this weekend.

Well, the wing tubes for the Cub and Twin Otter showed up tonight, so I had to slip them into the Cub! I guess I'll be doing some work on the wings and struts this weekend!! The foam blocks showed up this week as well for the wingtip extensions. I guess I'll see if I'm able to do some shaping.

Edit: The covering and the rest of the servos are on their way, too. Not much left to order for supplies I think!

Looking good Lins! I like those big tundra tires. It's looking like a real bush plane now. Keep up the good work.

Wow, almost a month since my last update! Well, progress has been slow with warm weather, house and vehicle work, family visiting, etc., etc. I've mostly just brought the left wing up to par with the right and have done as much sheeting as I can for now until I glue in the wing tubes. Once the leading edge is mostly smooth I will then build the flaps and ailerons, decide how to mount the servos, then build the struts. After that its just light work on the fuselage, mounting radio equipment, tail linkages, fuelproof firewall etc., then should be ready for covering and paint! Thankfully tug duty isn't required anytime soon, so I'm not letting my friend down!

Edit: Oh, I still need to build the wingtips, too!

Progress has been slow with the nice weather, but I'm still trying! Flaps and ailerons for right wing approximately 3/4 done. A little more sanding and top sheeting, then mounting the horns, hinges and on to the left wing flaps and ailerons. Mount the servos, run wires, bottom cap spars, wing tips then struts and wings are done (I think)!

Hiya guys. Thx for responding to my message Lins. I've been doing this build and going by what ever you guys took pictures of and commented on. Thank you. I started my wings today and it seems as though I am missing some ribs. I have 27 I think. Also I don't see any ribs made of plywood. The plans say the 1st 3 are plywwod. Also I don't see how I'm connecting the wings the the fuse. If you can help me out or need to know more I will gladly tell you. Here is what I have so far. I guess the is no manal this this. All I have are the prints.

I think most the info is on the plans. If I remember correctly (I'm currently working out of town so I can't check right now) there are some dowels that align it, and they are bolted on from inside the cabin. This means the struts are 100% structural. I changed it to includes 2 smaller wing tube and sockets setup instead, and another builder chose one large wing tube and socket, which means the struts are not structural whatsoever. With the 2 smaller wing tubes, the struts are still partially structural which means if one breaks and I do any hard maneouvers, there is a change of partial wing failure. And I do have a few inner plywood ribs.

I went over the wing area today so many times and looking at your photo..............I gave up. One thing goood though. Yes I do have 6 ply ribs. I as well looking at this will be puting a center wing tube using the 6" dowels as just the guides. of movement. I'm sure that will be plenty safe.
Now geting back to the wing area. The material used for the areons (spelling) is what I'm not sure of. I'm lookin at your photo and still can't figure it out. I went over and over the plans and just not getting it. You have any tips let me know. Thanks Lins

I have a Balsa USA 1/4 scale cub.....I have a similar situation......
On mine (if I remember correctly) there are 2 ply ribs on the wing that but against the fuselage.
There are ply ribs on the inside of the fuselage.
The dowel rods, as you said, are for alignment.
To hold the wing in place2 boltsare run thru the inside ply and into the ply ofeach wing.A washer keeps from pulling thebolt thru.
Blind nuts on the inside of the wing gives the bolts something to hold on to. (use a 6-32 blind nut and bolt).
It is a PITA to fasten the wing but it does work.
The struts are functional...without them the wing would not stay in place.
The fuel tubing that you see is to hold my bolts in place while transporting only........otherwise they might fall out. They are removed to fasten the wing.

Hope this is of some help to you.........

The ailerons are just the tips of the ribs. You cut along the dotted/scored line (if there are any left). That made them a bit out of proportion, though, so if you can find any aileron stock you should be fine. I'm back home later this week, I can take a few pics for you then. Cheers

Thank you guys for responding. Ya Lins I'm gona hold off till I see a few pictures of yours. I do understand that those ailerons are made from the cut stock from the back of the ribs. I'll wait till I see what you did or are doing on yours though. Those prints are making me go crazy. Building the wing on one side then looking at the other side for the correct sizes of material to use. I need a break from it. Everyday is weekend here.....LOL..... I'm retired. This is my (pass time hobby) I'll wait till I hear from you. Thanks again fellas.

Took a few days off to get some things done around here and started one half of the wing today minus the tip that is still needed to be added on. I was hopin to see somebody elses. Also undecided if I should use hindge pins or something else to add airelons. Here are few pictures of progress today. Grrrrrrrrrrrr Pictures won't go tonight. Saying internal server problem. I will try to put them in tomarrow.

Thanks Lins. I been going over some of the body work today. I mounted my landing gear, and covered up the front nose piece around the brace going down towrd firewall. I think I'm going to laminaate it with 1/16 ply. That stuff is very flexable. I do have a question again here. This is on the wing struts. From what I'm looking at the outter suport just has a washer soldered on the end for a stop and the wire just sticks up in the correct location of the wing. Is that so? I need to do my struts tomarrow due to my wing tube coming in a day or so, so that I can install correctly I need to have these struts done in the next day.
