I was going to get the Balsa USA 1/3 Cub at the Toledo show. After seeing the Sig super Rascal I was hooked. The way the fuselage is assemble makes building very easy. Once the fuselage is put together just glue all the the formers and break off the tabs. The wing is 3 piece, the center section that bolts to the fuselage and has the flaps, and the outer wing panels has the ailerons and is hold in with wing tubes. I going with my OS Pegasus 320 for power. I pre ordered mine with late summer or early fall delivery.

MY buddy Jim Klapp and I both ordered one. I'll be happy to do a online thread when I build them. His is for his grandson Dylan to fly and will be electric powered; mine will have a gas twin or electric yet to be decided.

I pre-ordered one Friday Morning, wife insisted when she saw the look on my face the moment I found out it was a kit and not an arf. It's designed to fit in a minivan, the tail comes off so the fuse can slide between the seats, and the center section is 6'. He said it flies on a 50-60cc gas engine, so a Saito 55T gas would be perfect for it. Those twin jugs with pushrods sticking out the cowl would look perfect on it. I was thinking of covering it with Koverall and dope, but my wife and daughter said make it look like the others with transparent covering.
I do have a DA 100 in a CARF Extra 300L that I never flew, and probably wont, so if I wanted to really make this plane move.....

I rather like transparnt covering, too, so I'd have to do the traditional Rascall patern maybe with transparent green.
I have a DLE 60 twin in my Telemaster, which is way overpowered, but it balanced the plane and I plan to tow and eventually set it up for floats.
Transparent orange and white.
I would think the 57cc Saito twin would be neat on the big Rascall. It just seems like it should have the sound of a four stroke.

THIS IS CRAZY!
I would love one, however I don't think my Wife would appreciate losing another 14' in the garage
I am fond of the transparent covering, but I never covered the entire aircraft with it. I like to keep solid colors on either the top or bottom to help with orientation during flight, white strips aren't enough for these older eyes.
Congratulations to those of you lucky enough to pursue the build. I hope to see one in person someday, maybe for sale?

Any thoughts to date on motor, prop size, battery flight pack and ESC/BEC and servos?

If the Fg57 is as fuel efficient as the fg11, I will be flying this plane a long long long long long long long time on a tank of fuel. The 11 uses less than 12 ounces an hour, and that is not endurance flying but 3/4 or more throttle.

I HAVE to see one of these. No way I could ever afford it, but I GOTTA see it.
Cool plane!!!!!!!!!!!

$900 is quite steep for a kit, but its a LOT of wood too, and knowing SIG, will have a lot of very good hardware included. I figured it would take 3 large bags of Koverall, and 2 gallons of Cleaer dope (1 each Nitrate and butyrate) and at least 3 quarts of color to finish this plane, or 6 rolls of HobbyKing covering, which comes in really large rolls. Going to go the cheap route and use the rolls, heard very good things about the covering, on par with Ultracote.
Oh and those who pre-order will have our names and AMA number engraved on the cabin.

Here is a 12' Stick kit for $1499....

Yeah kits of interlocking design of this size aren't going to be cheap. The market is limited, so the design, and cutting machine setup time I don't think amortized well.

So glad to see this plane still alive and flying. Back in the late 50s and early 60s it was one of my favorite kits to build. No idea how many I built but it was a few. They were a small all balsa free flight 1/2A kit and looked great when I just smooth sanded and clear doped them.
The 110 ARF was a huge hit in my area and a fantastic platform for the then new RCS 1.40 gas engine. Not being an ARF person I never got one for myself.

Was the big model hanging at the show, and flown at Owattona Sigs secret test model? Or did Sig decide to kit it after they were aware it was around? I thought I saw a picture somewhere that indicated it was the same plane.
Either way its a bold new kit to be sure. I hope its the first of a line of new Sig kits, limited production is better than no new production !
