Your running about normal on your CA use. Naturally it depends on the WS but I've built an Astro Hog so I know what you're working with.
Wait till you get to the carving- there's enough to go around.

I'm finding more use for Titebond all the time and less for CA and epoxy.

On an Astro-Hog the tail fairings, belly fairing, and the nose are carved. The engine comp has the most naturally as it is first built up using 1/2" thick blocks. So you Bipe builders got off easy.
I would love for a 1/4 oz bottle of CA to last me for 6 planes. Are you sure about that CafeenMan?

This is typically how I build (not counting the inlays)...

No CA anywhere in the wing except to harden the holes the wing bolts go through. Everything else is Carpenter's glue. No epoxy either.

I agree with cafeenman, a small bottle last me at least 6 planes, use mostly Titebond II and a small amount of 30 minute epoxy.

Guess I am really wasting glue then. I built a Citabria pro, which is a real builders kit for those who know, lots of carving etc. Anyway, I went through 3oz of thin, 2oz of thick for filleting joints, and some epoxy for the firewall, strut mounts and a little fuel proofing. For a little extra glue, all I can say is, my joints don't FAIL.

When I do use CA I also buy the Z ends by Pacer and use those teflon tubes (a tube comes with ZAP too). It really helps control how much glue I use.

I'm with you other fellows: Using less CA and more aliphatic! I just went through a six ounce bottle of the Elmers Carpenter's glue on my last kit (Dynaflite PT-19). I was shocked that I used that much, but those stupid huge applicator tips are tough to dispense a fine line with. I'm sure a lot of it was drops that ended up on my building board! Next plane I'll buy a small bottle of elmers white glue just to get the fine point applicator tip, then empty the white glue in the waste can and fill it up with the carpenter's glue. I quit buying the big bottles of CA because it was going bad before I could use it. I hate having to throw out a half used bottle of CA!

I use roughly 1 oz of medium CA and 6-7 drops per CA hinge of thin CA for a plane. The Hog Bipe took me about that much or maybe just a bit more with the extra wing. Sheeting uses the most for me.

I bought a small plastic squeeze bottle with a syringe tip at an art store. I put my carpenter's glue into one of those and it only dispenses a thin line of glue. Much easier to control and no waste. I'll post a pic of the bottle if anyone is interested.

I have to second using those thin applicator tips for CA. Those spots where you need to hold the bottle nearly upside down can cause a LOT of CA torun inside things. []
I bought a package of 100 on eBay. I've seen the guy's auctions off and on, usually 100 tips in a plastic holder for around $15 to $20 shipped.
CaffeenMan,
Sure. We'd all like to see your glue bottle.

on my first kit and I've used ALOT of CA. A buddy told me recently that if you build a plane to withstand a crash you'll probably find out how good of a job you did. trying to cut back my waste now.

RE: How many bottles of CA do you use when building a kit??
Just finished a Dynaflyte Decathlon, 89" WS, used about 1 1/2 oz of medium CA and about 1/2 ounce of thin. Some alphatic (Elmer's Pro Bond) not a whole lot, just for the sheeting on the wing, and epoxy for the firewall. I use a glue syringe for the wood glue, I have had it for years, but I think you can still get them in the hobby shops. Saves a lot of glue and puts it right where you want it.
Joints that fit well do not take a lot of glue and hold better. The wood will break before the joint separates.

I found a neat trick for applying epoxy when you wish you had it in a squirt bottle:
Mix the epoxy as usual, then scrape it into a regular sandwich bag. Don't worry about trying to get it neatly into one corner, just scrape it in. Then lay the bag on your work bench and sqeeze it into one corner. Twist the bag up to seal all the epoxy into one corner, and hold it by the twisted end. Cut a TINY hole in the corner with your X-acto, and squeeze it out like a baker's frosting applicator. It's a good way of applying just the right amount instead of gooping it on with popsickle sticks.

Who was carving on a citabria pro? This must not have been Balsa USA's kit? I built my 80" with about 4oz. thin CA, and 2 oz. thick; and a bottle of accelerator. Soldering was the hard part.

LOL... gotta love those models that have a little wood between the glue.

Actually, I use a lot because I usually have 2 or 3 planes being built at the same time. These are kits and scratch planes, not ARFs, they don't count, you don't use CA on most of those, just epoxy and spit.

My favorite is when you have glue all over the inside of your teeth from bitting the top of CA tip.. I sure hope that stuff doesnt cause cancer...
