Default 4*60 color schemes

Well, my 4*60 does not look as good as yours. I did not want to be too adventurous with my first covering job but I like the results. I'll see whether I can post some pics later for ya.

mstroh3961: Did you glue the tail to the fuse before covering? Cause the instructions say to do it seperatly.. and i'm wondering what way is better...

Here's a picture of mine. I just modified the ailerons, elevators and rudder on it. It was metallic teal blue and neon pink before. Couldn't see it before with that scheme, but I can see it now real good.

The tail is not glued on yet, the control surfaces arn't attached yet eather. I modified the horizontal stabilizer with some try-stock so it can only sit in the proper location. It is a tight fit and holds its self in position.

I changed the picture in the post above to one of the fuselage's covered !

I used a dye called Rit Dye for clothing. You can find it in grocery store's and department stores. Heat water and dye to 140 degrees. When it reaches 140 try to maintain the temp. But DO NOT allow it to go over 140 or the canopy will shrink/melt. Some people put salt in the water and dye. I didn't use the salt and it turned out fine. Hope this helps you out. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Have fun!!

MStroh, what cowl is that from? Also, is that a 40 or 60 plane?

This cowl is from FiberglassSpecialtys.com It fits the .60 size Four Star's. Price is around $37.00 plus shipping. Only down side is mounting the engine inverted. The cowl slides so far onto the fuse, that side mounting becomes impossible unless the cowl is split in half (upper/Lower). On the plus side it looks cool!

If doing a color scheme like this one did you first put on the lighter color and then put the darker one directly on top of the lighter color...?[sm=confused.gif]

In short, yes. Is this your first covering job ? I found the following useful - books by Higley and Faye Stilley, Top Flite's Monokote video, RCU threads on applying trims using windex (do a search), and various building articles like http://members.shaw.ca/nsrcawestdistrict/enigma.htm

Here's mine. I went kinda crazy one year, after learingin about the 'glass method' for joining sheets of monokote together.. hence why a lo0t of my planes have 'wavy lines' where one colour changes to another..

Yep , how to cut a straight line at the borderline of two diff colors, without cutting thru the underlying layer into the wood [X(] is an important technique to learn.
