cowl installed and more....
I wish the photo had a closer view of the cowl, but you can get an idea of how it looks here. Note: I have also used only the back 1/3 of the "big bubble canopy". It worked great for a windshield and open cockpit. (I have modified the "slanted head rest" on plans, to sit at 90 degrees, and added an external head rest and some cockpit sides). The tail feathers have been rounded off, and about 1/2" added to rudder area lost in rounding. The supplied gear is only 1/8" thick. This is too thin..... for my landings anyway!!! ..I had one made by TnT, 3/16" thick and added 1" of height. I have put fat Cub wheels on the gear. (the Cub logo will be sanded off the hub caps and the caps painted). I can't wait to get this bird in the air next spring!!!!

Sorry for the lack of some basic info here. I had 2 posts, but the first got shuffled to the bottom. It is a close up of the cowl conversion with some more info. See it at : http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...98&forumid=107
And yes Firefighter56.......it is a Sig 4* 120 with a Saito 150. This is only my second kit..so I don't know too much about plane names.(Mud Duck????? ... unless it looks ugly??)I just like the looks of the open cockpit planes. (Note the Spacewalker in the background).... lownslo...

NO problem !!!!
Heyyyyy Kevlar.... no problem. These forums are really cool. The problem is, sometimes expressions, or content, is not understood or "sensed". It would not bother me anyway as everyone has their own ideas of what looks good. I was truly questioning if there is a plane called a Mud Duck. I am fairly new to this hobby and there are LOTS of planes....... and... soooooo little time!!! ... lownslo

small shop!!!
Yeah TxMaxxMedic...... the shop I built IS small. It is the only space that I could stay within budget and improve my building area. I have a 24'X 24' garage that is not heated. I built this long, skinny plane room across the area in front of our 2 cars. (I have a "real work area" along the side of the one car that has my drill press, saws, and grinder). My new area is 17.5 feet long X 5.5 feet wide. It has a door on one end and one in the middle with a 28 inch deep work surface running the whole length, plus across the one end. It is a long bench with an isle. The white bench top, the plane is partially sitting on, is quickly removable. Everything is well planned and every square foot is used wisely. (even under the bench) It is small but VERY conveinent. It is insulated, heated and has A/C. I have enough room to do all work on 40 size planes. If I have the wing on my big planes I will have to check CG and other jobs outside in the other part of the garage. (and shiver!!!! ). I guess I could bribe the little woman to set up for the big jobs on the kitchen table!!!. No one out there has done that ...have they??? ... lownslo

BEAUTIFULL JOB!!!!!
I really like the mods to the tail feathers, Sig could take a lesson from you!
I may make the canopy mod to mine as well. After a bounced landing , my pilot gave up and laid down. havnt figured agood way to fix him without a great deal of work yet. (I didnt rough up the bott of the pilot figure before epoxying it down nor did I use any screws this time... live n learn!)

Thanks!!!
Thanks for the compliments guys. Yes Firefighter, I used approximently the back 1/3 of the canopy for the windshield. I probably cut off a little more than 1/3 to allow for trimming. Of course the edge at the cut becomes the base of the windshield and the "factory curve" at the back of the canopy, becomes the top radius of the windshield with VERY little change needed there. Needless to say there is a little trimming..... but a lot less than I would have expected. .... lownslo
