Your seam came out better than mine, great job!

I got my seats upholstered with some light vinyl and 1/4" foam from the fabric store. I created the tufts with common pins with the heads painted black. I just pushed the pins into the balsa frame and snipped them off in the back and put a drop of thin CA to hold them.

Yes, very cool. I am doing my best to copy it. Got the vinyl and backing, using thin foam for the seats, in mock up experiment stage now. SAC Midwest instrument panel will be here tomorrow. I did get the 12.95 horizon pilot, 12" tall, shortened his legs, removed his head, then cut the head off of the pilot bust they have, secured the new head. I'll get his hands on the stick, and proper attire.
. These are Chinese with bendable wire inside the figure.

You guys think this is too much for the 1/5th scale Cub ? I have not looked at the 1/6th size figures yet. Try to seat him in the back where a single pilot for J 3 usually sits, as far as I know.
Going slow, appreciate all the info on this thread.
.

The only tricky part was sewing the front seat upper panel to the side strip. The side strip looks better so I would not have a lot of folds going around the top of the round seat. I was able to make slits in the back of the side strip and fold it in the back and cover with a rear panel glued over it. I used contact cement to glue everything down. When gluing down the corners cut away any materiel that will bunch up and make a thick layer.

crankpin, where did you get the instrument panel from? I've been trying to get one from IFlytailies but they're always out of stock.

I never got a template. I bought mine online from another person.

Jolly Roger. Just got it today. All info below. Call or e-mail, they answer e-mail right away, and take paypal. It is really cool, vs the pictures. It fits perfect where the instrument panel goes, and looks very real. They make for every model you can think of, especially scale. See below. I don't know what is up with these hard to see letters here.

I have been looking at the iflytailies pilot, he is $85.00. One with the head that turns with the rudder, wired, is a little more. The guy you see with the sheepskin leather jacket, cost $14.00 on e-bay, and $5.00 shipping. I am going to try him out too. The one that is in the airframe here, cost $12.95 at Horizon Hobby, and shipping. I did not like his head on that one, no neck.
So, I decapitated him, and took the Hangar 9 bust pilot that they sell for around $6.95. I took that head, and siliconed it to that Chinese body pilot. I had to shorten his legs some, which only took some bending of the soft wire that is inside. The T-Bird flight jacket cost $4.95 and $5 shipping. I am going to try that jacket on the made up pilot here. Maybe get him a ball cap and some shades.

These are 20% size, I think, maybe too big for the 1/5th Cub, dunno. I will include the iflytailies pilot here also, I may use it as a last resort. The $85 could pay for the sullivan glow driver. Maybe you guys have seen the finished Cub here. It is a bashed Hangar 9 built in 2008 at our Florida home. Never flew it, I got the pattern bug for a few years, sold that off and more. I am looking to run the exhausts down thru the cowl, exit right front with some kind of single muffler.

If you go to e-bay, and punch in Hasbro GI Joe, then navigate around putting in different titles, (GI Joe PIlot}, etc, or something else, there are all kinds of these dudes on there.
Nausert - Thanks for the seat info, I am going to tackle it in the morning. The one panel picture is the paper piece that was in the Sig Cub box.

Here is the panel I received from SAC Headquarters today, and a little better picture of the modified pilot. Took with i-phone in little light, not that good.

My work space is a little crowded right now. Wife and I are in a rental house here at the foothills in east TN. We have a new home under construction, since third week of October, and should get in by 3/15/17. I have set up shop in one of the bedrooms here, we have boxes everywhere, plus storage close to here.

Was getting concerned with the talk about the cabin top strength so I epoxied some hardwood tri-stock to the center webs and ribs.

There you go, do that to the inner one too, just not where the top goes in or you wont be able to put it on. Thats how I repaired mine, though needed to add some ply as a doubler on the inner one since it snapped in two where the tube is.

Thanks Nauset and AC - I am right in the middle of getting ready for that. Setting up the Robart gear and saito engine mount.
