RE: Learjet .40 Build
I worked on the engine pylons today, had to make a run to the lhs, there was no 3/32 sheeting to sheet the pylons, they could not have possibly thought there would be any wing or hatch sheeting left over. After I did the pylon sheeting, I worked on the plastic parts, made up the fuel tank lines and installed the fuel filler valve. I am on hold with the front bottom of the fuse due to the lack of the retracts and the standard birthday waiting period rule..... Looks like this section will not get built for another 9 days or so.

Looking SHweeettt!!!! , , , , ,
Hey you are thinking of making 2nd LJ with EDF!, well now you can figure out how will you be doing it as those stock pylons have to be totally redesigned and so as the nacelles!!. I am thinking to do all the plastic parts out of fiberglass for this model down in future by somehow enlarging nacelles to proper scale, these seems to be on bit smaller scale then the model itself...

I was thinking along the same lines as you are with the fiberglass. they would need to be bigger for functionality also. it doesnt look like a 70mm fan would fit along with something strong enough to hold them. One this size would look sweet sitting at the proper height with scale gear, gear doors, lights etc. I really wish someone would make something a little more affordable than the Mark Frankle LJ.

Hawkpilot,
I cant get over how much more you have done every couple of days! You gotta tell me how many hours a day you are working on this thing? Looks great with the plastic pieces in place.
I have not done much of anything except some sanding. I've been fighting a cold and the sanding makes me cough and the CA makes my headache worse. Once Christmas is over I should have more time as well. All my time has been used for shopping and wrapping lately.

I hope you recover from your cold soon, it is no fun to be sick during the holidays. Try a big bowl of chicken noodle soup.

I worked on the plane on and off today. I installed and shaped the upper rear fuselage blocks and test fit the fin. Looks great but that is a LOT of sanding.
I also installed the tri-stock on the firewall and mounted the lower F3 pieces.

I have weird feeling that this airplane might end up hanging or displayed at Museum as it's old model for sure but its glassed and painted wing sheeting is cracking as could be seen on few spots on top the left wing!...

RE: Learjet .40 Build
Well no real progress for me today, I picked up some bondo today to smooth out the tip tanks and nacelles. I had to pry myself away from the planes to do other projects, somehow while working on other projects I found myself with a P-51 in the driveway burning up some fuel.

I don't know it's history but it's old built wing on this thing as fuse does look newer comparatively....

Pat,
You will have to do some shaving of firewall former from the bottom and top as mine had to be done so cowl can easily be attached on it and also to somewhat blend with belly's profile in that area...take a look at this area next time you get on building it..
Oh before i forget, i will take out spoilers and take few pictures for you. If i were to make then now i would use totally different methods and materials of today's standards ie: Composites for the spoiler panel, latch and actuating system!.

Ok here you go Pat....
Let see if you can figure out with these pictures. Hinges that are holding spoilers attached to the wings are Dubro ones and latch are plastic dubro aileron torque rod connectors that are screw on types.
I designed it to work with single standard servo and push and pull cables with nirods and plastic clevises on the ends.

RE: Learjet .40 Build
Thanks Sam! That gives me a good idea, and made me really want to do one scale.! I will have to start researching the web to find some composite panels and such. When I start on the second one I am going to do a scale LJ electric df build thread, it may be a while but that will give me time to brainstorm. Thanks for the tip on the firewall, I will be back to that area when I get my retracts in 7 more days..

Cool. The Dazzler is very similar to the Uproar .40, attached pic. Fun plane, one of those you take with you every time you go to the field. Here is a picture of it, in white and metallic plum. This picture was taken in 2008 and the plane was built in 1999. Flies great with both a .40 or .46. I plan to recover it sometime in 2009. You should have a blast with the Dazzler, it is nearly identical but I think the Dazzler looks better with its turtle deck/canopy.
Any more progress on the Learjet?

I cant wait to have a blast with it!! It is always my let loose and fly crazy plane on G4, I have been playing with it on Realflight since G2 came out. I have an old la40 that I will put on it for the time being, and plan on setting it up just like on the sim. Have you pushed the uproar pretty hard? I hope that the real version will take the abuse that the sim version will, as some of the maneuvers look like it would rip the plane apart.
No more progress on the LJ, I am stuck until Monday when I get my B-Day present. I could be doing some more bondo work on the plastics, but I get bored with that pretty quick. I dont have much left to do on it though.

RE: Learjet .40 Build
I beat up on the Uproar very hard over its life. It started with a TT .46, same as is going in the LJ for about 8 years. The last year it has had a .40LA on it. With the .40LA I think you would have a hard time stressing it too much. I think the hinges on any plane can be a weak spot but I never had a problem. I ripped the landing gear out of mine about 4 times over the 9 years it has flown. Also, I was dropping a skydiver with mine and the chute once got stuck on the tail and I crashed straight down at idle and split the fuse where the TE of the wing goes through the fuse, a little epoxy and covering and it was up the next day and has flown for years since.

RE: Learjet .40 Build
A skydiver.....that is sweet!!! I was just daydreaming a little while ago about a large 4 turboprop c-130 dropping a r/c tank out with a second person to operate the tank. ......... I am glad to hear that the plane is tough, hopefully the dazzler is as well, as I will definetly push this one. Later on when the money is better I would like to upgrade the motor to a 46.
